NEW YORK CITY, New York -- Jon Stewart, comedian news reporter for The Daily Show, has apparently plagiarized an UnNews column wrote on the 14th of June, titled UnNews:Obama rewards terrorists. Stewart's piece, titled "Guantanamo Baywatch - Uighur, Please", was a thinly veiled remake of the article already appearing on the awarding winning UnNews.
Charges of plagiarism are serious, and outside opinions usually sought, even in obvious cases. New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd was asked for her opinion, she being an expert in plagiarism. Speaking to an UnNews reporter, she said, "Well, he has definitely performed a sketch that is based on the same basic idea as the column by the UnNews reporter, but there were no direct quotes lifted, and he did refer to Bermuda as opposed to Palau or the Bahamas. Perhaps he is just slower than the UnNews reporter in reporting news in an up-to-the-microsecond fashion."
Reached for comment, the author of the original piece said, "I like Jon Stewart. If he found merit in my idea, then more power to him. His audience probably isn't as large as we have here at Uncyclopedia, but the few people who do watch him deserve to laugh, too. I have no intention of suing at this time."
An insider close to Jon Stewart was reached, and spoke on the condition of anonymity. "Jon's been having a rough time, what with Stephen Colbert upstaging him on that whole Iraq trip. He knew he needed some solid gold humor to get back on top, and knew that UnNews was the only reliable place to get it. He's desperately sorry, and so relieved that the UnNews reporter is declining to press charges. He's even offered that reporter free tickets to any of his shows."
