Forum:2 Uncyclopedias in English

We need to be user friendly to people who want to visit or join Uncyclopedia. From my personal experience, this is not what's going on ATM because:
- There are currently 2 Uncyclopedias in English: uncyclopedia.wikia.com and en.uncyclopedia.co (this site). I really like the article Joseph Stalin and it's featured in both sites. Where should I go?
- They are both active, more or less with the same number of active users. Who do I join?
- We are currently counting on the Wikipedia article about Uncyclopedia to explain people this situation. According to that article there are actually 3 Uncyclopedias in English. What will it say tomorrow? I don't know.
- It sucks to join and re-join Uncyclopedia. This site is pretty much unreachable from Google. My userpage in the Wikia Uncyclopedia was moved to User:Un-Kakun by a bot and I can't login to it. I can get to it only from the history of articles I've written, and I can't register using the username "Kakun". People might think all this Wikia shit also happens here. Not everyone knows the difference between Wiki & Wikia.
- The only main technical difference between the 2 Uncyclopedias is the "Uncyclopedia Languages" section in the main page which exists only in the Wikia Uncyclopedia. This part of Uncyclopedia is crucial for making a Wikipedia parody. We don't need the section but not having the "In other languages" list on the main page makes this site look alienated.
We need to explain this situation to people in a page like Uncyclopedia:Why are there 2 Uncyclopedias in English? and make it very visible to visitors, or even just use this forum page. We also need to add an "In other languages" list to the main page. It doesn't mean shit that they are hosted by Wikia. Our problem is not Wikia, it's the Uncyclopedians who are still active in the Wikia Uncyclopedia who we need to invite here. We must invite Uncyclopedians to move in here and explain why they should do it. ~ Kakun · talk 04:35, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- I've added a link to this forum to the Wikia Uncyclopedia. ~ Kakun · talk 05:03, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Um... about that: when we left Wikia, we made it clear why we were leaving, and invited everyone to come with us. Unfortunately, multiple people who I would describe using uncharitable language decided to stay behind, choosing, in some cases, to hide the fact that we had left, or that there was even a new site. Additionally, Wikia's staff has prevented Uncyclopedians who were absent during the split from learning about it, by turning off the email feature and banning people who attempted to get the word out through the Wikia site. The best part? Because much of our pre-2013 content is (or was) identical to the Wikia site, Google's search algorithms penalize us so we don't show up in search results where the "original" (Wikia) site does.Long story short: many of the Uncyclopedians still using Wikia know about us, and regard us as pretenders, and are happy in the Wikia fiefdom; anybody else is unable to find out about us because of the Wikia 800-pound gorilla. I don't really have a solution to all this, aside from the Wikia-branded voodoo doll that I've been torturing for about five years. I'm not sure it's working, though, and it's really less of a voodoo doll at this point, and more of a voodoo pile-of-ashes, but I don't want to buy another one because that would just encourage the bastards. ~ Sat, Feb 10 '18 12:16 (UTC)

- BB does a good job of describing the problem. From my point of view those who stayed behind were users who had generally been at odds with the part of the community that left. As I recall it almost all of the active admins and all the active crats left Wikia, which meant that users like SPIKE were given the power to reshape UnWikia unopposed. Since the split I have never seen the sort of toxic flame wars that we used to have on a regular basis about the direction of the site. I think that’s because the two sides of those old arguments each got their own site to run, and neither of us has any real incentive to go back. -- The Zombiebaron 19:44, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Got it. We still need more active users here so maybe this forum could help. ~ Kakun · talk 21:20, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Yes I totally agree that we need more active users. I think if we could write a history of Uncyclopedia that both sites agreed on and then showed it to every new user on both sites so they could choose where to edit, that would be the ideal solution. However I doubt it’s possible based on their reaction to your forum. -- The Zombiebaron 21:35, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- I think this forum is enough. They know we want them here where there is no Wikia to chaperone us which is obviously the better place to be. My initial choise of words was wrong and I corrected it. ~ Kakun · talk 22:30, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- Ok cool. Maybe somebody with a proper keyboard can type out the benefits of leaving Wikia e.g. better access to site customization and CheckUser. -- The Zombiebaron 22:42, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- You just did. Why don't you buy a new computer, by the way? ~ Kakun · talk 22:46, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- I should have one by the end of the month. -- The Zombiebaron 22:49, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
- I think there are other benefits of leaving Wikia. At the time we left they were forcing us to advertise other Wikia wikis via Spotlight ads, they were forcing us to remove images of nudity, and they had implemented a sitewide content warning. Also at that time we relied heavily on Wikia staffers to perform various tasks (Mediawiki updates, CheckUser, cratting ChiefjusticeDS) who were hard to reach in anything resembling a timely manor. There is probably more but also some stuff has probably changed over the years too. -- The Zombiebaron 03:46, 11 February 2018 (UTC)
- There shouldn't be 2 separate sites. That's the main problem. Currently we have 2 sites, and each one is screaming "Who the hell is this other JENNIFER LOPEZ? Where did she come from?" it sucks. ~ Kakun · talk 00:40, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
- I 100% agree. -- The Zombiebaron 07:42, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
