Big Shot
The Big Shot was what can only be described as a basketball stunt first performed in 2021 by "pro" basketball player Nimrod Dick. The play required a 6-foot-long basketball, a trampoline covering half the court, and a hula hoop with several meters of net duct taped to it. The basketball game it was part off was normal up until then, when Nimrod "Big Shot" Dick decided to bring in a ton of weird props and be a "big shot".
“Ya see here, like, the thing is, I'm a funny guy. I like being chaotic and fun. That's kind of my thing. I also like basketball and comically big props. So don't say I 'ruined the game' or 'this is a freaking basketball game, not a circus' because the people love me. They like my bits. They know I'm a big shot, and they know I'm gonna make the big shot.”
– Nimrod Dick
Dick was physically kicked off the court straight into an angry mob of soccer moms after that comment. It is unknown where the horde of soccer moms came from, as this was a professional basketball game.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Clips of the Big Shot went viral on several well‑liked social media sites and YouTube. An edit that got particularly popular was the "blue edit", where nothing changed except for the color of the ball, which was changed from orange to pink. The Big Shot was also met with criticism, with several sports critics claiming that the move was "illegal" and "resulted" in five "casualties". The United States government issued a misspelling-riddled warning advising kids not to recreate the play at home, school, or anywhere where they can be seen by trusted adults, despite the fact that the event didn't even happen anywhere close to the US.
Name controversy[edit | edit source]
The Big Shot officially became problematic when Dick was spotted at a fast food restaurant with the name tag "Nimrod Kyle Dick". Tumblr user thatguywhodrawsfurriesforfunandprofitbutmostlyprofit‑deactivated20250605 posted a picture of Dick working at the restaurant with the name tag captioned "HIS MIDDLE NAME ISN'T BIG SHOT?!??!" The information spread on Tumblr, TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat, and the talk pages of various featured Wikipedia articles. Dick himself responded to it on live TV.
“Ok, I admit it. My middle name isn't Big Shot. It's not even spelled Kyle. (dramatic pause) It's pronounced Kyle, spelled Cahill. I apologize for misleading you. I . . . like pie. Do we have any pie?”
– Nimrod Dick on his middle name, Cahill
