n00b can't animate

any help with getting a gif to work, i'm wondering? i'm new to all this but the one thing i can't seem to fathom is getting a gif to animate in thumb form????

any help will be moochos obligos. ta!

If you have uploaded an animated gif, you should be able to insert it into a page at a different size using [[Image:yourimagefile.gif|sizepx]] and have it appear as an animated thumbnail. Does that answer your question? If not, could you provide more details about what you have, what you are trying to do, and how it is not working as expected? --Sir gwax (talk) 21:48, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

You should look through Category:User page templates; there are many great examples of how to make userboxes, which you can copy and modify to suit your needs. --Sir gwax (talk) 21:52, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

Alternatively, let me give you the same advice that I gave to CreamedCrap above:

You can use the userbox template like this: {{userbox|color1|color2|text1|text2}}.

For example, {{userbox|#FFFF00|#00FFFF|pants|sandwiches}} will turn out as below.

pants

Help me please :)

i am new to all of this and i tried to make a page and it was going alright until i wanted to upload a picture. i clicked on "upload image" found in the toolbox and i followed the instructions thereafter. BUT after i uploaded it i was taken to a separate page and i lost whatever i typed on the original page i was creating.... please help me NOT do stupid things again :) --Pug&pup 17:34, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

There's pretty much no way around that other than to not do that in the future. Alternatively, if you're using Firefox, you can get the Lazarus addon, which helps protect against losing text from boxes. --Sir gwax (talk) 00:10, April 22, 2010 (UTC)

n00b help with caption and size

okay, I went to the FAQ, and it seemed to give pretty clear instructions on how to add the caption, and make the picture smaller. However every time I saved nothing would happen to my image, it wouldn't get smaller and the caption wouldn't show up. Hey I'm trying to center an info box on my main page. I tried using:

<div style="float: center">, <center> and <div style="text-align:center;">

So far as I know, those approaches ought to work. You might be missing something else; perhaps you are trying to center the wrong object; perhaps you haven't got margins and it's taking the entire width; perhaps you are centering something that is, itself, specifying another alignment; without knowing more details about what you're trying I can't help much more. The best advice that I can give you is to find an example on another page of something that looks the same as what you want and then copy the code from that page. --Sir gwax (talk) 05:22, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

A Quick Mark-Up Question

I was just wondering if there was a template to personalize gender in an article when referring directly to the reader, similar to the {{USERNAME}} template. In my preferences, it says that Uncyclopedia asks my gender for use in gender-correct addressing, but I've never actually come across an instance where Uncyclopedia does refers to me by gender, so I've been unable to look at the code and go from there (which is what I usually do.)

To clarify, this is an excerpt from an article I'm writing:

Good day, sir.

What I would love is a template that I can use in place of "sir" that will say "sir" or "madam" based on a user's preferences, or "sir/madam" if the user is not registered. To my knowledge there is no such template. Additionally, since users are never asked to specify a gender, I do not believe that it would be technologically possible to determine their genders for the purposes of creating such a template. --Sir gwax (talk) 23:13, August 31, 2010 (UTC)
