Welcome to the new and improved Imperial Colonization!

Before we begin, let's define some terms.

  • Colonization: The act of revitalizing a preexisting article and bringing it up to Uncyc quality standards.
  • Imperial Colonization: A group of users that are responsible for choosing, organizing, and writing these colonizations.

Our mission statement[edit | edit source]

How Colonization works[edit | edit source]

Colonization is a week long process. It begins on the same day that Christians begin their week: on Sunday.

Sunday: Nominations and voting[edit | edit source]

The first step in Colonization is the selection of an article. Articles may be nominated and voted on throughout the week, however at midnight GMT on Sunday the top article is taken from the queue and is chosen as the week's Colonization. A Colonization page is created at Uncyclopedia:Imperial Colonization/page name here. More on the formatting of Colonization pages later.

All registered members are allowed to vote for as many articles as they like at any time during the week. However, each member of Imperial Colonization is expected to participate in any Colonizations that they vote for.

Hint: When looking for articles to nominate, try checking this and especially this.

Protocol for nominating an article for CotW[edit | edit source]

  1. Add {{VoteCOTW}} to the bottom of the article
  2. Add the article to the bottom of the queue using a level three header

Protocol for making an article CotW (after 12AM GMT on Sunday)[edit | edit source]

  1. Change the {{VoteCOTW}} at the bottom of the article to {{CotW}}
  2. Cut the nomination from the main page
  3. Paste the nomination under its appropriate header at Uncyclopedia:Imperial Colonization/Archive

Monday - Tuesday: Concept and development[edit | edit source]

During these two days, ideas are hashed out on the talk page of the Colonization page. The discussion is always geared towards what sort of concept the colonized article will have. On the main Colonization page, an outline is compiled from these ideas and is finished by midnight GMT on Tuesday. Other things that can happen during this planning phase include deciding which participants will be working on which sections.

Wednesday - Friday: Writing and execution[edit | edit source]

During these three days, all members of Imperial Colonization that voted for the week's Colonization are expected to participate in writing the article. They are also expected to follow the outline that was agreed upon for that Colonization. Other Imperial Colonizers may participate if they wish, so long as they adhere to the outline.

Saturday: Evaluation[edit | edit source]

On Saturday, finishing touches are made to the article. The article is then sent to Pee Review where a member of PEEING will review it and give the article a score. Nominating the article for VFH is optional, and is usually best left to the reviewer (who must not have had anything to do with that Colonization). Should the article be nominated for VFH and eventually featured, all participants will receive one half of one feature credit (in regards to UN:HS).

Fortnight Clause[edit | edit source]

If Saturday rolls along and it is apparent that an article is not going to be completed in time, a senior Colonizer may declare that the Colonization will extend for another week. Alternatively, a majority vote on the talk page may extend a Colonization for another week.

No article will remain as the Colonization of the Week for more than two weeks.

How Colonization Pages work[edit | edit source]

When an article is selected, all work for that Colonization happens on the Colonization Page. The talk page is for discussion and planning. The Colonization Page is where both the outline and the article is written. On Saturday, an admin helps move the Colonized version to the existing article. (Do not try to do this yourself, there is a way to preserve both histories and it is important that the history is preserved. You have to be an admin to combine histories.)

How Imperial Colonization works[edit | edit source]

Imperial Colonization used to be an abstract corner of Uncyclopedia where anyone could come and contribute as much or as little as they wanted to any Colonizations. Now, Imperial Colonization refers to a usergroup that is organized and has a clear purpose: to improve articles that are relevant and likely to be found by casual readers. Here's the rundown:

  • Colonization is restricted to members of Imperial Colonization, however
  • Anyone can join Imperial Colonization.
  • Within Imperial Colonization, members can rank up by participating in Colonizations.

Joining Imperial Colonization[edit | edit source]

To join, all a prospective member has to do is apply on the main page. They are then approved by a senior member and can then start voting and participating in Colonizations. I know, kind of an arbitrary selection process, but it's not very exclusive. Odds are, if you're not NXWave, you'll get in.

Ranks[edit | edit source]

As stated previously, users can rank up by participating in Colonizations. There are six ranks that can be achieved by participation:

  • Lobsterback (LOB): Any registered Colonizer
  • Captain (CPT): Completed 1 Colonization
  • Commodore (COM): Completed 5 Colonizations
  • Rear Admiral (RAD): Completed 10 Colonizations
  • Vice Admiral (VAD): Completed 20 Colonizations
  • Admiral (ADM): Completed 30 Colonizations

The current leader of Imperial Colonization will bear the rank of Admiral of the Fleet (FAD).

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

This is a basic frame for Imperial Colonizations, as well as a general guide for Colonizations. This is a first edition, meaning that these rules have yet to be tested and are therefore subject to change. However, no matter how much these rules may change, there are a few last words to keep in mind when Colonizing:

  • Always work in the spirit of preserving and improving the wiki,
  • Always work with your fellow Colonizers instead of against them, and
  • Always work! (Well, work when you say you're going to work.)

Thank you for reading this guide! Happy Colonizing!
