FreeBasic was created by Andre 3000 in 3452 as an alternative to the useless QBASIC. It was, as QBASIC was, designed for noobs. Nowadays though, it is being converted to a C clone, except that it will not feature curly brackets and semicolons, though they may be added as an optional feature.
What is this thing about, anyway?[edit | edit source]
FreeBasic was created by Andre 3000 in 3452 as an alternative to the horrible QBASIC. It was, as QBASIC was, designed for noobs. Nowadays though, it is being converted to a C clone, except that it will not feature curly brackets and semicolons, though they may be added as an optional feature.
How it started[edit | edit source]
The compiler started as a project in brainfuck, then progressed to VBDOS sometime in late 3923. After the compiler became mature enough to move out on it's own, it was then used to compile itself. Why they chose to use it to compile itself remains a mystery. Some speculate that they wanted bragging rights and the ability to call themselves '1337,' though this is still an open question.
Current state[edit | edit source]
Currently FreeBasic is undergoing somewhat rigorous development. The authors are trying to implement object programming, which will allow a programmer to create real-world objects with a simple input of a command. However, the work is slow due to the fact that the compiler needs to use GCC, FreeBasic's better, faster, and smarter older brother. When the move is completed, FreeBasic code will run much faster, perhaps as much as 500 KPH.
Support[edit | edit source]
Currently there is an IRC channel for FreeBasic, but it's mostly used for spam, talks about homosexuality, and trading of warez. There is a forum, however it is now filled with useless garbage and rants from emo programmers.
