From ET600 Wiki - the free ethical encyclopedia!
However...[edit | edit source]
So is it all doom and gloom? Will vandals and missing references will ruin these great sites? Though there are disadvantages to the wiki format, there are counters to these criticisms:
- Citation tags[1] help to verify the authenticity of information. Differing points of view are represented if they have an identifiable figure to attribute them to. [2]
- Self regulating communities fix mistakes much faster than say a printed encyclopedia![3]
- Self policing communities ban or discipline wayward vandals and revert their "work."[4]
- Some communities even gain a new story or part of their identity through these attacks i.e. Fisher Price: A Retrospective and The Great Aspie War of Ought Six.[5]
So really, though there are some downsides to the wiki format, an efficient and dedicated community makes it such that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks. For this reason I believe Wiki technology falls under Maximising Good.
