HowTo:Get Started on Editing Uncyclopedia (Ver 2.0)[edit source]

simply accept the fact that thwe world is after you , and that Version 1 was more of a beta, in retrospect, hastily written and apparently it was offensive. The tone issue has, I believe, been resolved, and I think this is still a useful little article. Any comments on the article's current edit, please leave them here, and I'll do my best to address your concerns about the wording, content or any other aspects. --Hrodulf 20:07, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: 'Don't Mess With Success' and 'Deletions'[edit source]

Good new sections, and good advice. I'm glad to see someone else added to this article. While useful additions are great, I'd just like to take this opportunity to note that this is intended to be sort of like the "Cliff's Notes" to editing uncyclopedia. While I'm all for people improving the content, this article should not be allowed to swell up to the size of the Beginner's Guide; this doesn't apply to the two new sections, but people should keep in mind that there is a limit to how big this article can get before it stops fulfilling its purpose of being a short, easy to read guide.

In other words, if you're going to add something that significantly increases the length, see if you can edit it down, or edit down what's already here, or both. Remember, the point is to have an editing reference that will be used as a quick starter's guide, not to fully describe every aspect of uncyclopedia or wiki-html/etc. --Hrodulf 10:25, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

Nice[edit source]

I hadn't been here for awhile, but wandered back as you have been pointing people here. I especially like the "Stamp collecting is very nice" and "there's always the little stickers that come on fruit at the supermarket" bits. Made me laugh a great deal. While that's pretty amusing, the useful content is great too. Nice work overall! Bone F clear.png Sir Famine, Gun Petition » 01:51, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the kind words; I've been fortunate so far in that every time I've run into a rough area on uncyc, it's just led to something positive in the long run. Every time I've given someone advice or had a significant problem myself, I've tried to take what I learned and add it to the how to article, both to make it easier to give people advice (can just refer them to the article instead of typing the same stuff over and over) and better figure out for myself how to get things accomplished here.
Given that there still seems some unresolved questions about whether this article is a good idea and/or should be used as an unofficial/quasi-official adjunct to the beginner's guide, I'm grateful for your vote of confidence as to the current content of the article. --Hrodulf 02:58, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
I feel that it's a good idea, but I don't know about "official", simply due to it being primarily one users's experiences/words of wisdom. Also due the fact that the more "official" stuff we have, the less of it people read. It helps to have good solid humor, but we find people all the time who haven't bothered to read any of the Beginner's guide or anything else useful. Adding another article to the reading list, no matter how pertinent, funny, or well-written it is, is likely to accomplish nothing.
If we can get people to read and follow Uncyclopedia:Rules, I'll be happy. For those who struggle, I'm more than happy to point them to the Beginner's guide and to here, as both places contain useful information. While this still needs some polish, it's a good place to point a clueless n00b. Especially the sub-pages part. God I wish more people did that. That was actually the first part of it that got written, I learned how to make subpages after a village dump discussion, and decided to make a how to out of it. When I said "quasi/official" I was referring to the fact that it has been linked around from a few places, and yes, right now it's mostly my writing, but that may change in the future. There's at least one passage in there someone added that I had nothing to do with.
All that being said, it's just a how to article really (probably rare in that you're actually supposed to follow the advice . . . ). I see it more as a communication and labor saving device than a real article in its own right. That said, it may have its place in certain situations, but it is somewhat of a clumsy tool at the present and probably has a lot of gaps that need to be filled that I'm unaware of just because of my lack of experience on the site. --Hrodulf 14:06, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

The username template[edit source]

Hey, I was reading over the page, as I hadn't really read it before, but it is a very good help page. It's written better than most of the other help pages. I just wondered if you'd noticed that the {{USERNAME}} template only works once per page, and so the rest all show up as "anonymous user". I imagine most people will get it anyway, but it looks a bit odd. You could try linking them to Special:Mypage instead - links to subpages via that, i.e. Special:Mypage/Subpage will also work. I'd change it myself, but though I should check here first, in case it was intentional! Spang talk 23:28, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

I actually didn't know about the username template when I drafted the earlier versions of this, and went through a few different ways to deal with the issue of people taking the instructions literally and creating pages called "Myname/mysubpage" to everyone's simultaneous delight and horror. The classic "Type here and press enter to send." effect.
The original way I dealt with it was to say, in essence "no dumb n00b, don't really type 'yourname'" but that had to be junked when people complained they were offended by the article. I think that we shouldn't really worry about it too much. Anyone who at first creates a page that's called "my page" will probably figure it out eventually. --Hrodulf 12:42, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Blade Of Grass[edit source]

Blade of grass is the smartess thing on earth. According to a recent school study Blade of grass scored higher on his tests than his human classmates proving that Blade of grass is the smartess thing on earth. While most children spend their days inside Blade of grass stays on his front lawn hoping a dog won't come along and urinate all over him and his family. Blade of grass has Phd in every sience there is.

Lucky Monkey[edit source]

Due to contrary belief, Lucky Monkey was not made in a lab. He was actually formed purely of anti-matter and discarded tang from the Soviet spacedog Laika. Although Laika is believed to have overheated and died this is wrong. Laika actually produced spacegills and is currently living on the planet tatooine with a man named Allistar Skywalker. Luke Skywalkers distant cousin. lucky Monkey was caught in Earths gravitational pull and was hurtled to central Columbia where he was deported to Russia due to illegal uranium smuggling. lucky Monkey then boarded a Russian freighter hoping to escape the cold tundra of siberia. The boat struck an iceberg and begun to sink. As lucky Monkey scrambled for a boat he realized there were none. He then spotted a single man by the name of Beau. The two then made a pact that if they were to escape the freighter, they would stick with each other until times end. They then lashed a few deckchairs together and floated across the freezing water taking turns reenacting the final scene from Titanic.
