| Humour: | 7 | Pretty damn good for a laugh. Not hilarious, perhaps, but a well-crafted joke that is framed and maintained by a good prose. The whole idea of reactions to the old things your mother tells you about broccoli (and well done on avoiding temptation of delving into the old and tired "Your Mom" meme). If this is the standard of your comedic mind, I'm sure you've got plenty of other great articles up your sleeve. Not much wrong here. |
| Concept: | 6.7 | An old idea, perhaps, but used well and properly; for instance, I like how you've placed our graceless modern times' ideas of manliness-stimulating beer alongside the old maternal talk of broccoli, a considerably unmanly food, making one strong. Overall, what you've done with this old, traditionalised thing about eating your broccoli is pretty damn well-chosen and well-crafted. Too bad I can't tell you it's original...but then, it doesn't always have to be, does it? |
| Prose and formatting: | 8.8 | Nope, not a thing wrong here. Pretty much flawless spelling and grammar, a good, assertive and consistent prose that keeps the whole thing interesting and really gives it a personality...nope, can't find anything wrong. Damn. |
| Images: | 6.5 | Not bad...though you could have perhaps added something alongside that "you're not my mother!" section. I'm sure the internet carries plenty of images of fat and unattractive women looking shocked and/or hurt. Something like that always works wonders. Still, there's enough images to break up the test, and they're appropriate enough for the humour-that chest hair one was a good choice. Nope, not much wrong here either. |
