MGMT [edit source]
As always, I like two different opinions. Yes the article is unfinished. Yes, I want it in-depth. Have a nice day! You know what the music means... Our time is up. 19:18, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
- And the link doesn't work somehow? User:YouKnowWhatTheMusicMeans/MGMT--You know what the music means... Our time is up. 19:19, October 16, 2009 (UTC)
- As music is in my genes (or is that jeans?), I'll examine this one. King of the Internet Alden Loveshade??? (royal court) 04:36, October 17, 2009 (UTC)
Concept: | 4 | Intro to me Personally, I think it's helpful to know where a reviewer is coming from, so this will let you know how unqualified I am. I'm the current Noob of the Month, and am nominated for Reviewer of the Month, so at least somebody thinks I don't totally suck. I have a half-way decent background in music, and took a small handful of biology classes in college, but that's been a long time ago.
Your concept seems original (as far as I know, there aren't that many guitar-playing genes out there), but is very limited--a gene that plays music. While you manage somehow to make something out of this, I think the concept keeps you from doing very much. There's also the limitation that somebody who hasn't studied both biology and music in some detail won't get a number of your references. |
Humour: | 4 | I like putting Humour and Prose and Formatting in the same section so I don't repeat myself too much, but I do score them separately. I read the article through without reading the Wikipedia article, then glanced at it for background before writing this.

Prose and Formatting (details in Humour): | 7 | I think this is well-written, but the obscurity of your topic makes it's difficult to pin down. Also this is relatively short, but with a limited subject like this it may need to be short. |
Images: | 7.5 | I like the image, but would like it better if part of the gene were overlapping the guitar (closer to the viewer than the guitar)--the guitar seems to be floating in front of the gene, and there's no indication that the gene has hold of it. (You wouldn't generally have a photo of a guitarist with a guitar wthout part of the guitarist's arm or hand on the guitar, so that by layers there'd be the guitarist's hand or arm closest to the viewer and overlapping the guitar, then the guitar, then the rest of the guitarist's body). If this doesn't make sense, let me know. |
Miscellaneous, which may or may not be an average of the above: | 5.625 | Average of above. |
Final Score: | 28.125 | Again, I think this is so obscure that very few people will get your references. I'm probably a rare combination as I've taken university courses for both biology and music majors, and I didn't understand several of your references. But you do have some clever twists here, and bring together seemingly completely unrelated elements. And I definitely liked the way you combined musical and biological terminology. |
