UnNews talk:Washed Up 70's Rock Band touring to promote new album
Humour: | 8 | Note 1. “CITY, State - Today Washed Up 70's Rock Band announced that they would be launching their Forgotten Band Comeback Tour to promote their new CD, Last Chance to Make Money Before We Die.” Very good. Passage immediately and explicitly sets the pathetic and humdrum tone of the whole affair. The diminishment of the locale to just “CITY, State”(which was excellent and clever) and the diminishment of the band’s name, band’s tour, and band’s cd to its most base elements and motives both anticipate and enhance the scathing--yet all too true--assessment of those of Top-40 yesteryear fame. The passage employs reductionism in that it’s frankness and candidness trivializes the band’s efforts for what they really are: ever-fleeting attempts at relevance. Apparently, their relevance is so marginal that all they can hope for in terms of recognition is easily substitutable cliché. Elicited much appreciation. Elicited no smirks, smiles, or lols; but it is excellent satire.
Note 2. “They will be touring many major cities across Large Country, ending the Forgotten Band Comeback Tour with a performance at Large Corporate Sponsor Dome in the heart of City. Last Chance to Make Money Before We Die is expected to hit stores Month.” Very clever. Continues to reinforce concept and tone. Especially good is “They will be touring many major cities across Large Country…heart of City”. However, passage only elicited appreciation. Note 3. “I really liked a lot of the stuff on Album, but I was less impressed with Second Album. Another Album was better, but I kind of thought Producer was trying too hard.” Very good. Dialogue deftly captures stereotypical fan perspective. Elicited a chuckle. Note 4. “Live Album was almost as good as Album," says Loyal Fan, "Of course there was the embarrassment of their foray into "urban sounds" on Ill-Advised Album, but even that wasn't as bad as Embarrassing Post-Rehab Mistake.” Elicited a chuckle. Note 5. “Others, however, are not enthusiastic for the release. "Washed Up 70's Rock Band completely sold out," said Unhappy Fan” Very clever! Unexpected. This passage and the following testimony, “I liked them better when nobody else liked them. But now that they're all well known, and have Gigantic Guitar Company by their side, it's just not the same.” elicited a smile and appreciation. Note 6. “With Washed Up 70's Rock Band coming under fire in the 90's for Disastrous Public Event, many fans though that they would never play publicly again.” Good. The passage somehow encourages the reader to conjure up what exactly was the disastrous public event. The possibilities are tantalizingly fun...hahaha. Note 7. “At Meaningless Industry-Driven Award Program, Drummer attacked Pop Culture Celebrity after she awarded Award to More Marketable Younger Band. After the incident, Washed Up 70's Rock Band largely went under the radar for a while, until Year, when they released Embarrassing Post-Rehab Mistake. The CD was largely unsuccessful, garnering poor ratings from Generic Music Magazine and Large Newspaper.” Though the passage is topical and though the passage reinforces the concept, the passage did not elicit any smirks, smiles, or lols. Still, a fine passage. Note 8. “Washed Up 70's Rock Band, however, promises great things with Last Chance to Make Money.” Ahahaha: clever in that the album relays a sense of urgency. Elicited a laugh. Note 9. “We've really come together as a group ever since Guitarist got out of Fancy Overpriced Celebrity Rehab Center," says Singer, "With Keyboardist back in the band, we are as strong as ever! Although he and Bassist never used to get along, everything is behind us now." Some fans, though, are disappointed that Drummer will not be returning to Washed Up 70's Band for Forgotten Band Comeback Tour. "He's off doing his own thing with Other Band," mentioned Bassist, "We had to replace him with Drummist for the recording of the CD, and although Drummist is good, it's just not the same without Drummer behind his Big Drum Cooperation drumkit.” Captures washed-up band dynamics well. Topical as well. Elicited no smirks, smiles, or lols; but fine passage. The distinction between drummer and drummist is clever and much appreciated: I would have been wracking my brains to find another word for drummer, hahaha. Note 10. “There was Rhythm Guitarist's sextape featuring him and Celebrity Pop Star,” Oooh. How sordid! Topical. Note 11. “and then the whole fiasco with Singer changing from Mainstream Religion to Obscure Middle-Eastern Faith.” How funny! Elicited a laugh. Note 12. “From their first hit "Single", the band has consistently had a large following, even through all of the media attacks over Incident Involving Motorcycle Gang Security Guards.” Whoa. ^_^ Reads clunkily however. Note 13. “Many fans even stuck with the band through Guitarist's Potentially Career-Crippling Addiction to Substance.” Fine. Note 14. “"I'm very surprised Singer is still alive," says Bystander, "He really needs to die."” lol! Very unexpected. Especially due to the line’s immediacy following and explicit contrast to the previous fan’s thoughts. Note 15. “"I'm only going to the show in the hope he will drop dead on stage. That would be hilarious!"” Very strong ending. The bystander just reeks glee. Very fun. Elicited much appreciation and laughs. |
Concept: | 9 | Excellent concept. A significant element to the appeal of this article is its resonance for the reader. At times, it’s a bit sobering really. May one compare it to UnNews: Choice of which product to buy last vestige of freedom for most Americans: both articles, while not particularly lol-eliciting, offer a brilliant and sobering assessment of an advanced capitalist society. People frequently find relevance in the marginal. |
Prose and formatting: | 7 | Prose and formatting were easy on the eyes and satisfied Uncyclopedia expectations. |
Images: | 7 | Images and captioning were fine. The blur of the first picture enhances the group’s increasingly-pressing irrelevance. Both only elicited recognition. |
Miscellaneous: | 7.8 | Averaged. |
Final Score: | 38.8 | Excellent concept and excellent satire. Good job! The article is ready for VFH. Kudos for the good read. And good luck on VFH! |

- By any chance did you listen to the audio? It in itself is pretty great (minus the crappy singing)! - UnIdiot | | Talk | Contribs - 20:59, Apr 30
- Oh no, I didn't: thanks for telling me...Well, that was eye-opening, hahaha. May I ask what exactly is the person saying? Mightydandylion (talk) Fk 22:24, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- The lyrics for the chorus are "Chorus Chorus Generic Rock Chorus", and the Verses are "Lyrics, about a girl I loved, one day. Lyrics, about sex and drugs, and other things". Pretty simple, I made it as more of a joke than anything. - UnIdiot | | Talk | Contribs - 01:25, May 1
