Oh, Rabbi, my dear Jewish friend. You have no idea how united is Poland right now. Everybody mourns death of Kaczynski, regardless of political views. And actually you've missed the target of this article. You should've concerned more about Russia being so nice to Poland. It's really odd. They usually are not so nice :P Anyway, I find the part about Germans invading us funny. It's all-time joke. Sir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj • KUN 16:47, April 11, 2010 (UTC)
- Here, opinions are very different. The general consensus among people I know is that while the loss of 97 lives is a tragedy, Europe is better off without Lech and it's a pity Jaroslaw is there to take the reins. You're right about Russia - most unlike them, and very unlike Putin to head the investigation when there seems to be little he could get out of it. :-) Rabbi Techno kvetch Contribs FOXES 17:35, April 11, 2010 (UTC)
- Well. Polish president has a weak position. He can't do much himself. He has lawmaking initiative and can veto some bills but actually many institutions in Poland got initiative and it's not something exceptional. And veto can be rejected by Parliament, so... Lech Kaczyński was just a president, and tbh our Prime Minister was a more like a Polish representative. Kaczyński was just traveling around to some not-so-important events, like this in Katyń (globally not so important, only Poles care). He was a homophobe, but many Poles are. And his brother isnt a Prime Minister anymore and he won't be. Anyway Jarosław was the one who led Lech. Lech was the weaker of the siblings and was always consulting his bro before taking decision. - It's probably more Michał Kamiński who is unpopular here, due to his being a more prominent figure in the EU - most British people (my friends, who are a bit more clued up about politics than the average Brit) know who the Kaczynskis are, but the majority of people are likely to have not heard of them until now. PiS are viewed with suspicion partly due to being a part of the European Conservatives and Reformists and the links with the Latvian LNNK, because nobody likes a party seen as celebrating the SS. Many thnaks for improving the Polish name, by the way - I tend to create neames-that-look-Polish to a Brit by randomly hitting the k, n, y and z, though I avoided x since you told me it's not in the Polish alphabet. :-) Rabbi Techno kvetch Contribs FOXES 11:40, April 12, 2010 (UTC)
- Well, We also don't have "v", remember ;). And actually try also more with digraphs like "cz, dz, dź, dż, ch and rz", they look cool and they're absolutely Polish. Sir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj • KUN 15:52, April 16, 2010 (UTC)
- The same is true of Welsh, which as well as not having x or v also lacks k nd z and has digraphs ll, ch and dd (the latter bring pronounced like th in English). Unlike Poland, Wales has only been invaded by the English in the last thousand years - but that was in 1277, and we're still trying to get rid of them. - He, he :D Well, we have "v" sound written as "w", and English "w" written as "ł" :P. Sir Ptok-BentonicznyPisz tutaj • KUN 16:04, April 16, 2010 (UTC)
- F is pronounced v and I forgot the digraph ff which is pronounced f. Y is pronounced like the English u and u is pronounced like the English ee - as in the Welsh word for Wales, Cymru ("kumree"). Just to really confuse people, we also have regulated variation of consonants, so Cymru can in some situations be spelled Gymru instead. English people think Welsh is weird, but since Welsh has been around for a hell of a lot longer we laugh at them. Rabbi Techno kvetch Contribs FOXES 16:07, April 16, 2010 (UTC)
