After the national side's 2-1 victory over Ghana, the US is said to be closer than ever to taking an interest in the World Cup.
"Oh was it tonight? I thought it was on tomorrow," said Brad Logan, a website designer from San Diego. "That sucks. Oh well, I will definitely watch the highlights on YouTube or something. Go USA!"
Walmart has responded to the upsurge in public interest, by setting up a small section of soccer balls in front of a picture of Landon Donavon, who unfortunately did not make the squad.
Meanwhile, on the east coast, Philadelphia housewife Maggie Tomlinson told UnNews, "I have always liked soccer. I played it as a kid, and I think it's a great way for my kids to get exercise - and it's a lot less dangerous than football! I don't normally watch it though - but I really home Team USA do well!"
Perhaps the progress that American soccer has made since USA 94 was best summed up by Tom Lanford, from Indianapolis, who wrote us saying, "I used to think soccer was really gay. Now I guess it's OK."
