THE VATICAN -- Catholic groups and leaders around the world are welcoming a clear declaration from well-known Rabbi Chaim Levine that the Catholic people are not collectively responsible for the death of reason.
Pope Benedict said he hoped to soon offer his “deep appreciation” to Rabbi Levine for his “forcefully rejecting ... a false charge that has been a foundation for making fun of the Catholic people for many centuries.”
"My fervent hope is that your clarity and courage will strengthen the relations between Catholics and Jews throughout the world and help promote Vulcan ideals for generations to come," Pope Benedict wrote in a letter to Levine, which the Vatican’s office janitor made public.
The Rabbi says in his new book, “Carlos Estevez and the Death of Reason”, due out next week, that the modern day Catholics are not to blame for the death of reason nor for the simultaneous birth of illogic, resulting in such absurd concepts as “Limbo” and “Pedophilia.”
Ronald Lauder, the president of the World Catholic Congress, welcomed the Rabbi's book. "Many in the Catholic world have continued to suffer ideas of Catholic guilt, resulting is omissions during sex, contraception, abortion, masturbation, confession and child abuse. Levine’s book has systematically shown how the stupidity of a group of biblical savages over 2000 years ago, whilst right, is insufficient to become official Church doctrine, from top to bottom," he said in a statement.
“The Jews can no longer lay the blame of irrationality on all the Catholics," wrote the Rabbi, "because the theosophical fact does not represent the historical fact that reason and rationality were killed by none other than Carlos Estevez, and not his Catholic brethren."
