The father of athlete and suspected killer Oscar Pistorius has announced that he is really proud of his daughter Aimée, the only one of his three children not currently on trial for murder.
"I know a father is not supposed to have favourites," said Henke Pistorius, who himself ran into trouble after he blamed the high number of South Africans who carry guns on the failure of the ANC government to bring down violent crime, "but what can I say? I'm an old man, and a sucker who any one of my kids who isn't accused of homicide."
While much of the family focus was on Oscar, who tragically had his legs amputated aged just 11 months, and then amazed his local community with his running prowess, Aimée was quietly living her life, showing no signs of murdering anyone.
"My only regret," continued Pistorius Sr. "is that I'd never really told her how much it meant to me. When your child is born, you have lots of hopes for them - that they're healthy, that they're lucky, that they're happy. It wasn't until Oscar was arrested for murder, I realised what I really wanted for my children - for them not to be on a murder charge."
Mr Pistorius added that he wanted to right the wrongs of the past and reward Aimée for twenty three killing-free years. "I am going to make sure that my baby daughter is safe. Is there anywhere around here that sells guns and cricket bats?"
