Cory Monteith, star of the awful hit TV musical comedy Glee, died from shame, a coroner in British Columbia has announced.
The 31-year-old Canadian, who played Finn Hudson on the show, was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room on Saturday.
Monteith, who had been in the musical comedy since its 2009 start, was treated for chronic embarrassment in April. He had previously talked frankly about struggling with his emotions since the successful pilot of the show.
"There was one episode where I had to sing Losing My Religion. It was just awful. I couldn't really sing it properly, and they made me walk in slow motion through the high school, like a goddamn 12th grader's film studies project."
"When I came off set, I realized that I had been blushing so hard my whole face had turned crimson."
Monteith was also said to be uncomfortable about playing a teenager more than a decade after leaving high school, and struggled with maintaining a youthful appearance at the same time as nurturing a heroin addiction.
A source on the show revealed, "I think the tipping point was when the football team had to dress up as zombies and do Michael Jackson's Thriller. To be honest, quite a few of the cast and crew were left traumatized by that one, and I don't think Monteith ever recovered."
Co-star Darren Criss said in an interview, "I am numb. We all feel embarrassed sometimes, it's natural. It's a fucking terrible show. And we knew Corey had problems, but no one imagined it would end like this."
"I just wish I could have spoken to him the night he died, if only to do an ill-advised duet one more time."
