UnNews:Farage to become Irish citizen
Monday, July 4, 2016
Nigel Farage, the leader of the United Kingdom Independence Party, has resigned and declared his intention to emigrate to Ireland and become and Irish citizen.
Farage, whose decision means he can retain an EU passport, told a press conference: "It just looks a bit iffy here, what with the pound slightly dropping in value and all these unknowables regarding the way ahead. And the leadership of the Tory party.
"And the Labour party."
Farage claimed that he got the passport despite not having any Irish ancestry: "The man at the passport office said something about me doing the Irish the biggest favour for 99 years - and that they'd be happy to have me."
Farage has had a monumental twelve months. Resigning after UKIP's disastrous showing at the 2015 General Election, he seemed to be calling an end to his political career. He was, however, persuaded to return, and played a key role in the Brexit campaign by repeating the word "immigrants" and holding his nose at regular intervals.
Now, despite claiming his political ambitions are satisfied, and although his new Irish compatriots appear to be treating him as little more than a harmless novelty, Farage is showing signs of turning his attention to a new cause. As he arrived in Dublin, he asked: "Don't you think Ireland would be better off out of the EU?"
