UnNews:Did 'Patch Adams' article push Williams over the edge?
Tuesday, August 12, 2014
Rumours are circulating that the suicide of legendary Hollywood funnyman Robin Williams was caused by Uncyclopedia's creating and featuring an article about Patch Adams.
Almost no one in Hollywood has any idea of what Uncyclopedia is, but Adam Sandler is a huge fan - he even co-wrote his 1996 Happy Gilmore epic with two Uncyclopedians (back when the encyclopedia was just a book). He is thought to have found the Patch Adams page especially funny, and showed it to Williams - with disastrous consequences.
Psychoanalyst Joanna Corey explained, "Patch Adams was the movie that Robin held closest to his heart. The metaphor may have been too sophisticated for most viewers, but he was Patch Adams, the clown trying to make us all feel better."
"When he saw the Uncyclopedia page, he apparently just sat there in silence. He is not of the lol wut generation, so it was almost inevitable he would end up putting his face in a plastic bag and suffocating himself."
Tributes for Williams poured in, with Christian Bale tweeting, "At first he made me smile, and now he has made me sad. In many ways, his life has had the same emotional impact on me as Good Morning Vietnam."
Patrick Stewart wrote, "He was the man who made it OK for a Hollywood star to be inappropriately hairy. Without Robin Williams, Julia Roberts' armpits and Simon Cowell's chest would not have existed."
And Chris Rock posted, "No one impersonated a black man better than Robin Williams."
His widow thanked the stars for their kind words, adding, "It's just a shame he is not here any more to hear these tributes - he would have loved all this mawkish sentimentality."
