Talk:Albrecht Dürer

I've decided to become less obsessively protective of this article and leave it pretty much open for anyone to finish since I'm concentrating on other articles at the moment and am not really in Durer mood. Some of the article is really really bad, but there's some decent stuff too I hope, or at least the potential for it. I should add that this needs more faux high-brow and less random, I think writing it from the perspective of an informed arts scholar might work, there would be plenty of opportunity for over-the-top observations of his paintings details and meditations on his work's grand meaning. I have checked it ..I am not sure if you are heading in the right direction with the Jesus theme - except as an obvious side issue.. That he was the first self regarding artist or a narcissist would perhaps be more of an obvious direction ? Perhaps he was too ugly to get real models !? Also there as so many Jesus articles here in one guise or another that they all start looking the same. Yep, well I studied him at uni so it's not lack of knowledge that is making it difficult. The Jesus emphasis is more of a remnant from the beginnings of this article, I moved towards narcissicism after and am now preparing for a complete deluge following which, hopefully, only the awesome stuff will remain. The latest thing was the rivalry with the Italians, although I do think the Jesus aspect should stay there, even in just a diminished form, because it is quite clear that not only did he have a strong narcissist streak, he also quite obviously modelled himself on Jesus, and made portraits in which he resembled Jesus. An add add. Yes in fact you are writing about Durer's strong self regard as well but i liked the hands joke and rivalry with Leonardo da Vinci. Durer wanted to be better than Da Vinci as he was now working for Milanese on code cracking the French secret service until he was turned...perhaps that could be the new centre of the story ?? THen the rest could be slotted in. There is always a problem here about how much or how little information you need to write for other contributors to understand. Yes, you're quite right, and in all honesty I wish I could do two versions - one more surreal, the other closer to the truth - but I think it is best for someone who really likes something/someone to come across an article that has been written by someone who really knows the subject. So in-jokes don't really matter to me in this regard, but they are still secondary to capturing the (real) character, or in the case of an artist, spinning the artist's character based upon the art we are left with (which is all we really have to judge him/her by after all).--El Sid, the lazy one • parlez-vous franglais? 20:30, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
