Nick Adderley
Nick "Walter Mitty" Adderley (born 731.BC) is a senior British police officer, who is at the time of writing, still clinging on as Chief Constable of Northamptonshire Police pending an investigation to sack him.
Childhood[edit | edit source]
Nick started off his life in the leafy suburbs of Uxbridge, born to parents and christened Jay Cartwright he had a troubled upbringing, often exaggerating his accomplishments to his friends Will, Simon and Neil, leading to being ostracised by the local community and forcing him to change his name and move north.
Military Background[edit | edit source]
After being run out of Uxbridge and needing to change his name, Adderley's family moved to New Moston, Manchester. From a young age he showed a keen interest in the military after serving alongside King Harold in The Battle of Hastings and then later seeing 6 tours of duty in World War II taking on Rommel and Hitler simultaneously in an arm wrestling match, while also claiming to be present at the Battle of Peleliu, earning him a Victoria Cross that was awarded to him by his superior, General Dick Dastardly.
He continued to rise through the ranks of the military, despite not being American he has waxed lyrical about his time served in Vietnam, along with his squad buddies Sgt. "B.A." Barracus and Col. Hannibal "John" Smith, with a documentary made in the 1980s and then into a feature film about his heroic exploits.
At the age of 14, while serving in the SAS he lead the squad that took part in the Iranian Embassy Siege, earning Adderley a George Cross and following this he transferred to the Royal Navy in 1984 where he gave many interviews claiming to have served in The Falklands, however due to internal security concerns being raised by his close friends James Bond, Moneypenny and M he has been forced to retract these statements as these exploits he undertook are now deemed as classified.
He served with distinction in the Royal Navy for 10 years, due to his exemplary war record, received rapid promotion eventually retiring as a vice admiral. He modestly turned down a knighthood as he wished to be judged on his own merit as a policeman. He has occasionally returned to active duty when the need arose, in 2011 after a personal request from Barack Obama, he led the team that shot dead Osama Bin Laden during a dawn raid, still managing to get home to clock off that evening from his shift in Tameside Police.
Police Career[edit | edit source]
As a Police Officer he has directly investigated and resolved many high profile cases including;
- A dangerous road traffic accident where a lorry ran aground of a pothole in Weatherfield, crashing into the Rovers Return public house on Coronation Street.
- As a UK detective he made the connections in determining who shot American oil baron J.R. Ewing, his hard work bringing the culprits to justice, aiding his colleagues across the pond.
- He was instrumental in uncovering a body of murdered father of two Trevor Jordache buried under a patio in Brookside Close in Liverpool and bringing his killers of his wife and daughter to justice.
- He gained fame tailing his former superior officer Sgt Don Beech of Sun Hill after Beech killed his colleague John Bolton. Adderley has been quite tearful when recounting this story as was "puppy walked" by Beech. When seeing the documentary about Police activity on ITV in October 2000 called "The Bill", he publicly admitted his connection to this Beech character and how he had requested not be included in the production for modesty. He felt his betrayal was a deeply personal matter that he couldn't let slide and tells how he got involved in the manhunt, finally bringing Beech to book.
- Bringing serial criminal Dot Cotton to justice after she ran a crime empire with Pat Butcher and Den Watts in Walford.
Covid-19 controversy[edit | edit source]
Seeing an opportunity during the lockdown to abuse his powers for his own ends, Adderley attempted to implement a policy amongst his staff of demanding to see people's papers and shopping purchases upon leaving supermarkets. As an experienced bin-dipper, Adderley knew all too well the value of pilfering through someone's personal affects as a means to secure medals and other trinkets that he could pass off as his own.
Popularity[edit | edit source]
Nick is so popular with the region he commands, his loyal subjects he polices over started a petition to get him removed from office so he could retire and admire all his war medals.
Medal teleportation[edit | edit source]
Nick is a very skilled individual, ensuring that the Falklands war medal his brother Rick Adderley gave him in 2013 upon emigration to Australia is regularly teleported back and forth across the world so both brothers can wear this with pride. Nick has managed to invent a teleportation device to enable moving the medal about and saving on the ever increasing cost of stamps. In an interview he talked about his colleague Montgomery "Scotty" Scott whom he invented this device with, but chose to keep it secret from the general public.
