Forum:Our own IRC Server?
Sounds crazy but yeah. It's possible. We should make it so we can UnTalk (talk uncyclopedia style) in channls suited for things (eg #unbooks for untalking about unbooks, #frogs for untalking about frogs)There would be some exeptions. One exception would be #contactadmin where can contact admins, blah blah the usual.
Pros
- UnTalking about everything (woo)
- Its possible (I could help)
- Freenode is gay
- add more pros
Cons
- costly (maybe?)
- each channel would have its creater as its admin (we could use bots like freenode's chanserv to fix that)
- Freenode is cheap (i.e Free)
- add more cons
Opinions (for/against)

(I decided to put this under a new header instead of under "cons".) Yes, we have available servers; yes, we have the know-how. However, freenode is a well-known network (probably better-known than en.uncyclopedia.co at this point), and as lots of people have found #uncyclopedia from freenode, the #uncyclopedia channel is Where We're At. It would be a bit redundant to have freenode and our own network. Also, the user-base is currently a bit too small to rationalize separate channels for every namespace.
We did have ircd set up during 2012 while we were working on the move, but it was easier to use freenode, so we never turned it back on after the move. At some point in the future when we get so successful that Wikia, Cracked.com and The Onion shiver in their collective boots when our name is mentioned, then yes, we might set up our own network again. Probably not right now, though. ~ Sat, Dec 21 '13 0:07 (UTC)
