I've noticed a number of VFP votes are getting accidentally deleted these days, which begs the question, are edit conflicts working right? Anyone else noticed this sort of thing anywhere else or have any ideas about this? --Sir gwax (talk) 03:45, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

It happens from time to time on big pages. It seems to happen even when one user is editing alone. I've had it happen when I open 2 or 3 sections on one big page at the same time, and edit/save them separately. Sometimes the other section edits are removed. Found an example here. I was only editing those particular sections, so there shouldn't have been any edit conflict message given or needed. Of course, it shouldn't have undone any previous edits to other sections either. Edit conflicts are working right, but this problem doesn't seem specifically related to them, and has been around for months. --Splaka 04:07, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, I'd seen that problem before a lot as well; it led me to make a point of only editing one section at a time on VFD. I wonder what the cause is and who we should complain to about getting it fixed. --Sir gwax (talk) 13:53, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Blame Carlb. He whacked a bunch of my comments in the Village Dump months ago, and neither of us could figure out what had happened. That was the first time (AFAICT) it sprang up, and since then, I've seen it a fairly large number of times. Only on long pages with lots of sections tho. If there's not already a bug report filed at mediawiki, one is probably needed. Otherwise, keep pages small if possible, sacrifice some NRV articles, and hope for the best. Okay, I was recently adding a picture to Unpocalypse, and I kept adding it, and saving, and when I would look, it would be gone. Also I would click on "Save page", and a Preview page would show up. This Preview vs Save Mixup seems to happen alot, and is annoying, and I am wondering if it happens to you guys and/or if it supposed to be happening. Be sure to check the history if you don't know if your edit went through or not. If your edit shows up on the history, click the permanent link (the date) next to that edit to see if it is the right edit, this will bypass any server or client caching (in theory). --Splaka 04:21, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

I've had this problem happen with practically every wiki I've used. Same story as Gwax; editing multiple sections at a time didn't work, so I just stopped doing it. --Xoid 14:26, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
