This is what she ALWAYS looks like.

Melanie Adele Martinez (born April 28, 1995) is an American singer, songwriter, and literal baby. Born from a stork and raised in New York, she rose to fame by appearing in The Voice. She lost the show, and decided to change her persona when she got signed to a record label. She then released her first song "Dollhouse" and released her EP of the same name.

She would then later release her debut album Cry Baby in which she personifies herself as a baby in order to relive nostalgia, despite being in her 20s (and soon, her 30s). Most of the songs in this album are actually fictionalized (take the song "Tag, You're It" for example), since they're written to make people feel bad for her. Her second album, K-12, is the same exact thing as Cry Baby except it takes place at a school and it has a film to go along with it. Her third album, Not Fossora, rips off Björk by reincarnating to some kind of pink mess. It also sounds like the songs that Ed Sheeran and Maroon 5 would make if they collaborated together.

Most of her songs are catered to Tumblr fangirls and adult baby fetishists.

Life and career[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Melanie Martinez was born on April 28, 1995 when a stork came in to the Martinez family and announced the birth of their first child. She listened to artists that teenage girls of her time were obsessed with like Britney Spears and The Beatles. It became evident that she wanted to be a singer. Due to her being overtly emotional, she has been called a "cry baby" in her life, which went to become the title of her debut album. Her parents used to not be accepting of her bisexuality but now they do.

2012: Career beginnings[edit | edit source]

In 2012, she decided to participate in The Voice. Martinez had dyed her hair half black and half blond in order to create a new fashion trend, in which it did in a few years. She was the fan favorite to win, but she was eliminated later on in the competition. Two of the studio versions of her performances reached the top 10 on Apple iTunes, which seemingly proves that people wanted her to win. However, instead, she would then be signed in 2 years.

2013-2017: Dollhouse and Cry Baby[edit | edit source]

After the show, Martinez began working on original songs. Her debut single, Dollhouse is about being with an abusing household, but it's not what it seems. She claims that this would be the plot of the next Edward Scissorhands film. Also, not only that, but it appears to be fictionalized since she did not have an abusive household growing up. Little that she knew that her fanbase, which consists of Tumblr girls would begin to form. In 2015, she would release the lead single to her debut album, Cry Baby, called "Pity Party", a song which is about her first birthday party gone wrong, which isn't true at all. Two other songs, "Drop the Soap" and "Sippy Cup" were released after. Respectively, these songs are about killing yourself by throwing a toaster in a bathtub and sipping blood in a sippy cup. Their meanings were not true. Despite Martinez being a liar in every single one of her songs, the album ended up on the Billboard 200, debuting at #6. In December 2015, she released a Christmas-themed single, "Gingerbread Man", which is apparently a gift to her fans. Later she said that she finished recording her second album, which is supposed to be an extension of her debut album.

2017-2022: K-12 and After K-12[edit | edit source]

In March 2017, Martinez said that she was directing a film, something she's never done before. It took a year to direct the entire film, and on May 19, 2019, her second album, K-12 was teased, and it was released in September of that same year. It sounds exactly the same thing as Cry Baby, if you hear the instrumentals, except that it takes place in a school. It could be considered her best album to date, but it's mostly because she said that it wasn't based on a true story and was instead fictionalized.

She would release an "extension" of K-12 called After K-12, in which it's about Cry Baby getting a part-time job. One of her songs from her debut album, "Play Date", went viral on TikTok, exposing millions of people to adult babies.

2023-present: Not Fossora[edit | edit source]

In February 2023, Martinez announced her comeback with Fossora, and the visuals look similar to the Björk album of the same name. However, the latter wanted to sue her because of the similarities, and to avoid getting sued, Martinez changed the title to Not Fossora. Unlike her first two albums, it sounds like that Cry Baby is (finally) dead, but unfortunately, reincarnated into a CGI pink monster. Thankfully it is not musically similar to her previous albums, since the lead single, "Back From The Dead", was produced by Skrillex. At the end of March, Not Fossora would be released to negative reviews, and ended up being blocked by Lana Del Rey's "Did You Know That I Love Long Album Titles" at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Criticism was directed to Martinez, saying that she tried to sell out.

Artistry[edit | edit source]

Martinez's songs have been described as pop, alternative pop, art pop, electropop, dark pop and hyperpop. Her songs have been banned from daycares and elementary schools for giving bad faith to babies.

Her debut album. Cry Baby, has some hip hop and R&B elements. Lyrically, it allegedly talks about Martinez's life but that's all fabricated. K-12 is an extension of her debut album, this time extending the plot of Cry Baby in which the titular character goes to school. Not Fossora has been considered to be a ripoff of Björk's discography.

She claims that her songs are based on "true and honest experiences" in her life. She has cited The Beatles, Death Grips, 100 gecs, Hole, Britney Spears, every single artist that Tumblr girls have listened to in the years 2011-2016, artists that Anthony Fantano had given a high score to in his YouTube channel, Justin Bieber (more specifically before his voice crack), Ariana Grande, and random mainstream artists that are very popular as her influences. So you can say that she's a basic bitch.

Sexual assault allegation[edit | edit source]

What most of her fans did not know is that she is a sex offender, but she got away with it. She believes these allegations were false and are a huge lie, and has responded to these on Twitter. She will most likely never get arrested since that was just minor.
