this topic i created deals with one thing and one thing only.

"its" never has an apostrophe. there is no accepted use of "it's"; even as a contraction.

it. it is. its. it is not it's. it is "its".

that is all. thank you. The viirus 03:50, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

its = posessive (belonging to it)
it's = it is (a contraction) --Carlb 03:55, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

ok. i guess i overestimate the formality of uncyclopedia. even if the content is completly farcical, if i am ever to contribute to a documented text, i sure as hell will not use contractions. nevermind. The viirus 04:21, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

You underestimate our formality. See Wikipedia:It's, [1] [2] [3] [4]. It's is most commonly mistakenly used as a possessive ("its"). It is correctly used as a contraction. Silly. --Splaka 04:30, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Carl got it in a nutshell. It's is a perfectly acceptable contraction although it is a less formal version of 'it is'. It's certainly got its place on Uncyclopedia, however, where there are a variety of writing tones and styles - some of which are less formal than others. --Hindleyite | PL | CUN | Converse 09:55, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, the problem is, the original poster can complain about apostrophes and contractions and formality all they want, but they are still a fucking moron. They claim above, you may see, that the proper contraction of "it is" is "its" (it. it is. its.). So, they are just a fucking moron. That is like saying the proper contraction (nothing to do with contractions being proper or formal or not) of "do not" is "dont". --Splaka 23:18, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to point out that nobody cares. --OsirisX 08:54, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

That's only if you believe that language isn't an evolving creature. It's something that is in popular usage, so eventually it'll be good grammar. T'wasn't always so..... -- Sir Mhaille Icons-flag-gb.png (talk to me)

it. it is. is it? tisnt. it is not, no? no. t'its. tis 'ts. t'. '. t'hats all. thank you --Sir Hardwick Fundlebuggy (Bleat) 01:00, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

ARRRGH! You have said the word that the Knights of Ni! cannot bear to hear. --Carlb 01:18, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Here's how I remember it, with a little song...

Bum! Bum! Bum!

If you want to be possesive,

It's just I-T-S.

But if it's supposed to be a contraction then it's I-T-APOSTROPHE-S...

Scalywag.

I love it when people get their knickers in a twist over perfectly correct uses of English. Frankly, it's hilarious. Also, Mr. Viirus (sic), if you want to discuss grammar and syntax, you might think about investigating the correct uses of semicolons and capitalisations. Particularly with regards to the subjective personal pronoun. -- Sir Codeine K·H·P·B·M·N·C·U·Bu. · (Harangue) 18:30, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
