Forum:Community vote: Stupidedia wants to join the Uncyclopedia project
Stupidedia, the German humor and parody wiki that came before any of the Uncyclopedia projects in any language, wants to join us. I know what you're all thinking: there's already a German Uncyclopedia, albeit much smaller. Stupidedia and the German Uncyclopedia in the past have discussed merging, but nothing came of it. Stupidedia sees reproposing a merger as being the next step, after being brought into the project. You all know how it goes: Stupidedia will continue to run their own site, not us or any other foreign language Uncyclopedia project. Interwiki linking, inclusion on our babel page, and inclusion in the Foreign Office will be the only mutually-agreed actions taken by either site to help expand our wonderful project. This is not an attempt to kill the current German Uncyclopedia, who is being asked for their input. I believe that the two can exist mutually or, as I and the Stupidedians have said, come to an agreement about merging their communities and content. Now, I'm not sure if a community consensus is necessarily required in this matter; if it's not, then consider this an FYI and vote anyways. --EMC [TALK] 20:08 Jul 17 2010

- The changes for us are so minimal that I would be remiss to not vote for, but it seems like what we decide should be entirely dependent on German-language Uncyc's decision, which is a lot more relevant. -- 02:22, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to see them come in, interwiki linked initially. The two German communities can figure out how/if to merge at a later time.... bringing them "in" is a great first step. EugeneKay wuz here (whine thank) 20:13, Saturday 17 July 2010
QUERY!
Does this actually have anything to do with us? Surely the English Uncyclopedia doesn't make decisions for all the other Uncyclopedias... does it?
21:32, July 17, 2010 (UTC)- No, this simply affects our babel listing, our Foreign Office, and our interwiki linking. It also gives us, regardless of their license, the ability to translate their content and include on our site (though this is not an issue). Other Uncyclopedias' decision to do the same with Stupidedia is up to them, but there's no reason I can foresee as to why they would object. --EMC [TALK] 21:44 Jul 17 2010

- Given that Stupidedia is several magnitudes larger than the German uncyc, I see this as a good thing with a long-term view of assimilating the smaller into the larger -- Prof. Olipro KUN (W)Anchor Op Bur. (Harass) 02:30, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- That's fine as long as someone talks with de.Uncyclopedia and asks them if they're OK with this step. Do we have a contact there? ~ 09:36, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, and I sent him an e-mail. --EMC [TALK] 10:39 Jul 18 2010
- Hm, I didn't receive an email but I'm online anyway. I will start an opinion poll about this in German Uncyclopedia. I don't think it's a big deal and personally I'm in favour of it. Please be aware that nobody has proposed a merge between German Uncyclopedia and Stupidedia, both projects have a different style and I think that both wish to keep their styles and stay independent. And while I obviously think that de.uncyclopedia has much more quality, I have to admit that Stupidedia has much more visibility and many more contributors, and its quality has improved over the years. NaturalBornKieler (talk) 08:04, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, it's me again and our regulars have voted on this subject, voting 5 for, 7 against, and 2 abstain (see here) after a quite lively discussion. I didn't expect that but it seems most of our users and admins consider Stupidedia very much below our standards (Yes, we do have standards), and linking to it could draw more unwanted attention and spam than useful contributions. Oh well. NaturalBornKieler (talk) 19:53, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
- Oh, one more thing. As far as I know, Stupidedia is a sort of commercial project, it has ad layers and the revenues go to the domain owner, who also acts as an admin on the wiki. Don't know if this fits with the rest of the Uncyclopedia project. NaturalBornKieler (talk) 20:01, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
- Really? Hmm... If he's pocketing ad revenue for himself he's violating the CC license... Of course, if he's using the money to pay for the hosting of the site or to advertise the site elsewhere and things like that then it's fine. That's what we intend to do with the revenue from the store (which has made a whopping $6. American.). Use the money to pay for the PLS and stuff (maybe running ads on other sites...). Do you know if he's pocketing the money or if he's actually using it run Stupidedia? MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 20:09, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
- Stupidedia does not use the CC License, it uses GNU FDL (see here). Regarding the money I of course cannot answer that since I don't know how much revenues there are, but it could be that it's more than he needs for hosting, since as I said Stupidedia has quite good visibility in all German speaking countries. I don't say he has a gold mine there or something, maybe I'm completely wrong, but I think you could ask them. NaturalBornKieler (talk) 20:23, July 23, 2010 (UTC)

- Please read the comment. We have a Foreign Office, which means wherever you live, our office is somewhere else. It's foreign. So nobody can actually come and use it, because it would then move. Think it through before asking such a question. Jeez. Aleister 2:30 18 7

What would be the interwiki?
That's the only question I have regarding this. That and if an article is on both Stupidedia and the other German Uncyc, how would it display in the interwiki box? Would it simply show two "Deutsch" or what? MegaPleb • Dexter111344 • Complain here 13:29, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
- What I heard is that it would be still "Deutsch" for the German Uncyclopedia and "Deutsch (Stupidedia)" for the Stupidedia. Sounds good to me. NaturalBornKieler (talk) 08:04, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Actually...
While I don't object to the idea of Stupidedia joining Uncyclopedia, I'd want the community of the German Uncyclopedia to have their say in this. I mean, it's important to explore any reasons why Stupidedia shouldn't be included in the Uncyclopedia project before making any big decisions. Comparably, a great deal of Uncyclopedians would strongly disagree with the notion of other-language wikis having interwiki links to Encyclopedia Dramatica.
20:26, 24 July 2010- Agreed, I think we might want to take the discussion actively over to De.Uncyclopedia. NBK, I hope you don't mind? ~ 21:00, July 24, 2010 (UTC)
