Welcome![edit source]
Hello, Skutter, and welcome to Uncyclopedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If not, the door's right over there... no, a little more to your left... yeah. Anyway, here are a few good links for people like you:
- Beginner's Guide
- Our Vanity Policies - why we don't care about your friends
- How to be funny and not just stupid
If you read anything at all, make it the above three links. If you want to find out more about Uncyclopedia or need more help with something, try these:
- About Uncyclopedia and The five pliers of Uncyclopedia
- How to get started editing on uncyclopedia
- Help Pages - if you need help with a specific issue
I hope you enjoy editing here and being an Uncyclopedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or use the "sign" button () above the edit box. This will automatically produce your name and the date.
At Uncyclopedia, writing articles is not a requirement, but it certainly is a fun and easy way to express your creativity. To write an article, it's recommended that you start it in your userspace (for example, User:Skutter/Article about stuff) so you can edit it at your leisure. If you decide to create it in the cold world of mainspace, make sure it is in accordance with the policies laid out above, and if you're not done put the "Work-In-Progress" template - {{construction}} - onto it as well.
If you want to write and don't know where to begin, consider contributing to Uncyclopedia's current colonization of the week, a group writing project to improve a single popular article. Anyone is welcome to contribute, so come help out!
If the current colonization doesn't suit your fancy, then browse our rewrite and idea categories. We have lots of articles just sitting around for someone to improve, so don't be afraid - dive right in!
If you need help, ask me on my talk page, ask at the Dump, or ask an administrator on their talk page. Additionally, the Uncyclopedian Adopt-a-Noob program is there to bring experienced editors straight to you. Simply leave a message on an adopter's talkpage to join. Again, welcome! Some Jackass?[edit source]
I deleted your "article" because of our vanity policies. They were linked in the deletion reason. Read them. Within reason, you're OK putting blatant self-promotion on your userpage, but putting blatant vanity in mainspace will get you banned. This is a friendly warning from "some jackass". Heed it! --UU - natter 09:46, Jun 4
oh apologies, it was you? i was trying to make some chick called mel laugh. dont take it to personally 'UU'. – Preceding unsigned comment added by Skutter (talk • contribs)
- I don't take things like that personally - as an admin on here, I've been called far worse. I'm just giving you a tip on how to avoid getting banned - most people tend to ignore these, question my parentage, and get a ban. Hopefully, you'll do better than that! You want to make Mel laugh personally? Keep it to your userpage, and as long as things don't get too personal, you're fine. Good luck! --UU - natter 09:53, Jun 4
that second part was my userpage right? Ive been called far worse too. Probably youll understand why. now. How do you get to be an admin on here? – Preceding unsigned comment added by Skutter (talk • contribs)
- Generally speaking, have no life at all (like me). More specifically: time and effort - spend time here, get to know the community, make productive contributions such as fixing crap articles, reverting obvious vandalism etc, help out, generally make a name for yourself, then get nominated and voted by the community. We've had an entire two new admins so far this year, so it doesn't happen too often! But if you want to contribute, there are all kinds of awards you can win. --UU - natter 10:08, Jun 4
I'll try, I can be slightly serious at times. Ive got exams this week, so on the weekend I'll start. – Preceding unsigned comment added by Skutter (talk • contribs)
- Cool - well, good luck. First tip: on talk pages, remember to use the 4 tildes (~~~~) to sign, like me and Mordillo there are doing. Have a look through the links in your welcome message up there - they explain most of what you need to know. Need any more help, drop me a line on my talk page (that link that says "Oim from Englund" in my sig). Oh, and good luck with the exams. --UU - natter 10:17, Jun 4
