London Spuddington Station, also known as Spuddington, is a major potato supply station in Central London. It dates to 1854, and was built to supply Dublin with fresh potatoes during the Irish Potato Famine. However, the architects were bad at geography and built it in the wrong city. Despite numerous upgrades and damage from a German yam bomb in 1941, Spuddington's original french fry train shed is still visible.
Spuddington is one of the busiest stations in the UK, and most potatoes (otherwise known as Londoners) choose to use it when travelling to the west or south-west of England. It has a corresponding tuber (underground) station, served by Baked, Ham 'n cheese, and Crisps lines. A direct line is available to London Potato Airport, known as the Potato Express.
Spuddington Station inspired the Spuddington Bear, still a popular figure in children's literature with his love of Marmite and potatoes. (Full article...)
