Gilmore Girls is an American reality show broadcast on the E! network. The series follows the decadent lives Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, the ex-lover and daughter of Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour.

Lorelai[edit | edit source]

Lorelai Gilmore was born in Hartford, Connecticut on November 14, 1968, the daughter of an insurance executive and a schizophrenic lesbian. Her childhood was an unstable one. In a 2003 interview with Redbook, she confessed that her mother believed herself to be Susan B. Anthony, going so far as to file suit against the U.S. Mint for using her image without paying royalties. When she was sixteen Lorelai attended a Foghat concert at the Hartford Civic Center and decided to follow the band as a groupie.

Although lead vocalist Dave Peverett reportedly welcomed the "fresh tang," Lorelai became expendable when it was discovered she was saving herself for Mark Knopfler, and would therefore only give head. She traveled west with the band to Topeka, Kansas, where she was sold to Pink Floyd for a six-pack of Tab, based on her reputation as giving "bitchin' handjobs."

Gilmour was immediately attracted to Lorelai, and tried to convince her that she'd still be a virgin if he "pulled out" before ejaculating. After he promised to mention her in the liner notes to the band's upcoming album, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Lorelai finally gave in to Gilmour's advances. The encounter proved unsatisfactory for both parties, and though Gilmour claimed his performance was negatively affected by alcohol, Lorelai refused to allow him a second opportunity after he'd "sobered up." It was only after leaving to tour with Journey that she discoverd she was pregnant.

Early Years[edit | edit source]

Rory Gilmore at age 12.

Lorelai gave birth to Rory, her only child, at Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana, sometime in 1987 (records of the exact date were lost in the aftermath Hurricane Katrina). The delivery was performed by famed obstetrician Dr. John. Lorelai sued Gilmour for child support. However, the couple managed to settle the action out of court. Although the amount of the settlement was undisclosed, it reportedly exceeded $500,000.

Lorelai began looking for a business to invest her windfall in. She found it in a dilapidated house of prostitution named the Independence Inn. Within months, she transformed the establishment from a low class establishment catering to frat boys and the cast of Porky's, into the destination of choice for the discerning john.

As Rory grew older, customers began to pursue her professional services. Some offered as much as $5,000 to deflower her. These inquiries would lead to the duo's first foray into show business. Lorelai speculated that there was a market for a movie depicting her twelve-year-old daughter's first sexual experience. She hired director Louis Malle to document the sale and subsequent encounter. The film was released in theaters as Pretty Baby.
