Microsoft Knowledge Base[edit source]
I have no idea how to review this given the nature of it. Have fun! Pup

- Cool. I'll grab another one from the queue ove the next few hours. Pup
Humour: | 6 | Right, before I get going I'm just going to run down how I'm sorting the scoring for this one. I'm going to try and evaluate it as I would a normal article, I may depart from my usual scoring system on a couple of points and I will make the occasions that I do this as obvious as I can. OK, the humour is good, and I laughed a couple of times as the error messages cycled through. However the problem isn't with the error messages, the main problem that I found was that once you get past them there isn't much else here, there are a few jokes in the links, some stuff on privacy and some good jokes in the small amount of prose but otherwise there isn't much that will keep you on this page for long. This is obviously a problem, but I think that you can sort it out with relative ease. My first suggestion would be to try and add some more content to laugh at once the error messages have happened, you only have to take a look at the real Microsoft Knowledge Base to get ideas, what I thought was a missed opportunity was the lack of the ability to see problems that have been raised before, and maybe even the Microsoft response to these problems. Another thing that bugged me was that while I attempted to see what else was on the page, the error messages would reappear again and I found myself having to read the information in the gaps, and in one instance I was attempting to click on something and suddenly an error message appeared and I got taken to a completely different article. Perhaps having too many errors to actually interact with the knowledge base was part of the joke, but I would advise that it is scaled back a bit so that people can actually read the page, since the same cycle of error messages while amusing and possibly the main joke, isn't supportive of a good reading environment.
So basically scale back the error measages and expand the rest of the article as I was genuinely disappointed to discover that there wasn't much else to the article once you got past the error messages and the difference in formatting. I would strongly recommend you work on this. |
Concept: | 7 | The concept here is good, and the way you have tried to execute it is superb too, the main problem is that you haven't gone far enough with the execution. You have faithfully recreated the knowledge base's look and feel but there isn't anything there for the reader to see and enjoy. As I said above you should try to put in some feedback from other people who have used the knowledge base. There is room for you to link to some other Uncyclopedia articles, and I was very surprised not to see a reply from Microsoft linking to nobody cares. This brings me onto the voice of the knowledge base, I like the start you have made, and I would encourage you to continue with the whole "Pay us license fees" and "If an answer isn't in the knowledge base there isn't one" idea as I thought you had a really good start with them. |
Prose and formatting: | 10 | I can't really say much here, besides wow, I am really impressed at what you have done with this, and there is literally nothing I can recommend here. I would like to raise the point that I am fully aware that the above suggestions may create immense problems for you or may be very difficult to implement due to the nature of the page, I would recommend that if this is the case you leave the article as it is because the page is different and unique enough to be worth a place in main space as it is at the moment and I would hate for you to cause that problems by attempting to change it drastically. If you can change things in the way I have suggested then I would urge you to give it a go. While we are on the topic of formatting, you might want to try and stop some aspects of the article being crushed into very small spaces, the title for example and the contents listing. These are very minor problems, and I have to give you 10 because this impressed me so much. |
Images: | 8 | The error messages are all I can really evaluate here. They are good for the most part and many are very amusing, the clock one was my personal favourite. I would recommend that you go back and remove a couple of the more scruffy looking ones, or at least provide more time for the reader to see everything that is in the longer ones; the spam error for instance, that has a good joke in it, but it is whisked away so fast that it is really difficult to get that joke. Otherwise they are pretty good. |
Miscellaneous: | 7 | My overall grade of the article. |
Final Score: | 38 | A difficult one to review, but I hope you get some use from my comments. Essentially you have an excellent idea here that I feel is let down by not going far enough, the article has a lot of potential and it is down to you to realise it if possible. If you have any questions or comments that you can reach me at the usual place. Again, I apologise if this review isn't very helpful. Good luck making any changes. |
