| Concept: | 3 | I've lived in Australia all my life, and I've never even heard of these people. Looking them up on Wikipedia, I gather that they're University-based communist wannabes. All in all a pretty easy target, and one you've attacked in a highly predictable way. If the gag had been that this incredibly minor organisation had swept the last Federal election and turned Australia into a socialist utopia, that might be worth a chuckle or two. But "is an illness turning students into sad political throwbacks"... that's more smug than funny. Oh, and when you think about it, the repeated joke that "Marxists like Karl Marx" isn't really a joke, is it? |

In short, my advice to you is to pick targets people might actually give a shit about, and then put some thought into the actual humour you use to attack them. Don't just rely on your audience saying "It's funny because it's true", particularly if there's a good chance that your audience doesn't know what you're talking about. |
