HowTo:Mess up Uncyclopedia
This includes vandalizing the sandbox this way. Thou hast been warned!
Uncyclopedia is the most credible online encyclopedia in the world. It is renowned for its credibility. This also makes it an attraction to vandals. One of its most frequently vandalized pages is, ironically, Vandalism. If you are a vandal, congratulations, you've come to the right place. Uncyclopedia has many loopholes that allow vandalism. One of them is the allowance of CSS. In this tutorial, I, Jabberwock, shall teach you how to mess up Uncyclopedia using it. It's very easy but can have a drastic effect on pages. To avoid spoiling it, I shall not list all the effects CSS can make, nor shall I show you a screenshot. If you are learning CSS for other purposes, you could have looked up a non-Uncyclopedic CSS tutorial, but all such tutorials contain way too much information useless for vandals. This tutorial contains all the important vandalism tools, though, which makes it more useful than any other.
Our tools
- A working computer
- A working keyboard
- A working mouse
- A browser
- Internet access
- And, of course, Uncyclopedia
In addition to these, Inspect Element could also be helpful.
Inspect Element
Inspect Element is a useful tool. To open it, right click anywhere on the page and select "Inspect Element" or sometimes "Inspect" in the menu. It can change and delete text and images on the page. This makes it useful in faking screenshots. However, it has one major problem. Uncyclopedia's server doesn't accept what you have written in that way. When you refresh the page, all you have done is gone. To make your changes stay, you need to edit the page.
Sneaking CSS into a page
If you simply add our final CSS into a page, the change would be greater than 1000 bytes. To add the CSS inconspicuously, you need to keep it small. Luckily, we have done that for you. Template:Mess is our final CSS, and {{Mess}}
has only 8 bytes. You can add the template into an article and delete an adjective from elsewhere so that the total byte change is +1 or -1. Write "fixed typo" in the edit summary, and mark the edit minor. This is unlikely to raise suspicion. Alternatively, you can write a new paragraph and add the Mess template in the same edit. Your edit summary should be "added paragraph/section about something something" or simply left blank. Nobody bothers to count how many bytes your new paragraph has.
A third, more inconspicuous approach is to add Template:Mess into another template so that it only shows up on certain pages. For example, as of February 15, 2021, Template:RecentUnNews shows up on the Main Page and can be edited by autoconfirmed users. To mess up the Main Page, add the code {{#ifeq:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|Main Page|{{Mess}}}}
into the template. This code only adds the Mess template if the page is the Main Page. In the same edit, add an UnNews entry and write the edit summary as "added news article". The template page still looks normal, but the Main Page is messed up. Nobody will figure it out in a few days.
The CSS
Now the tutorial begins. Our first step is changing the font.
{{#css: p { font-family: Comic Sans MS; } }}
Insert this code anywhere in the target article, and all the paragraphs will be in Comic Sans MS font.
