The video has gone viral.

Special education teacher Chris Palmer begins each school day at Candlestick Academy in Alabama by individually complimenting each of his students for 10 minutes - except for one of the kids who he doesn't like.

Palmer hopes to build confidence and self-esteem among his young students by reaffirming all their good qualities. However, what we don't see in the heartwarming video on the right is that when it comes to Thomas Davis' turn, Palmer simply says, "But I hate you, you spazz."

Prick[edit | edit source]

“Simple reminders of their positive attributes shifts the students' focus from what they can’t do to what they can do,” he told UnNews. "And that's a great gift to give all the students who you like, and one to deny the little prick who you really wish wasn't here."

Palmer claims that it has seen their self-confidence skyrocket. "You see Daniel, there?" he asks, referring to the boy who appears thirty seconds into the video. "He used to be practically unresponsive to any kind of verbal communication. Now he is so confident responding to my compliments, he is almost cocky - there! When he said 'I know'. Cocky, man. I almost hate him too now."

Palmer also recognized that the system isn't perfect. "I have to admit, a lot of the time I tend to fall back on 'you're a great student', but what else am I going to say? 'You give impressively tight bear hugs'? Or. 'You look surprisingly menacing when you are staring at the blonde girls from the local high school'?"
