UnNews:Obama daughters get Thanksgiving row apology
Sunday, November 30, 2014
Elizabeth Lauten, the Republican official who had accused President Obama's daughters of showing a lack of respect and class during the annual Thanksgiving turkey-pardon, has apologized.
Ms Lauten, who had drawn attention to the teenage girls' short skirts and bored expressions, wrote on her website, "I'd like to apologise to all of those who I have hurt and offended with my words, and I pledge to learn and grow (and I assure you I have) from this experience.
"After many hours of prayer, God, in his infinite wisdom, has revealed to me that little or no class or respect is necessary during the mock pardoning of a turkey."
President Obama welcomed Ms Lauten's words, adding, "This shows the progress humanity is making. Twenty years ago, Ms Lauten would have made these hyper-critical comments about this trivial matter in private, and carried on living her life, not feeling bad about it.
"In this day and age, she spouts her bile from a much more public platform online, and then she is roundly castigated and insulted by strangers, who force her into a public, groveling apology.
"Happy 2014 everyone!"
