UnNews:New York Knicks impulsively fire coach Thibs
Tuesday, June 3, 2025
MADISON SQUARE GARDEN, NEW YORK CITY-- In a move seen as either shocking to casual sports fans or typical by seasoned NBA fans, the New York Knicks have fired head coach Tom "Thibs" Thibodeau just days after blowing a chance to make their first NBA finals in 25 years and losing to the Indiana Pacers in an otherwise "entertaining" series.
"WAHHH! I don't want to wait another year to win a championship. I don't want to have to make my players get more experience or whatever it's called. I want to win an NBA Finals NOW!" screamed Knicks owner James L. Dolan from their headquarters before kicking Thibs out the window (Thibs somehow survived the fall; this is New York City of all places, stranger things have happened here). Dolan was raging so loudly we didn't even have to interview him.
At UnSports, we're just as shocked as you and are making sure this headline is real. At least it's baseball season for all you New York sports fans! Go Yankees, or Mets, or whichever team you support. Or none at all..
On the plus side, it appears the Knicks have "learned" their lesson from watching the Sean McDermott-coached Buffalo Bills constantly lose in the NFL conference championships to the Kansas City Chiefs, yet keep McDermott around simply by virtue of him being their best head coach in ages. The only flip side is that they now have a strong possibility of failing to learn from the 2000s-era Bills or the current Buffalo Sabres, both of which had been infamous firing head coaches every 3 years and thus missing the playoffs for nearly two decades.
Then again, this coach-firing thing always seems to work out for good teams in the NBA, so we'll see.
