James McAvoy, better known as Professor X, has taken the blame for the bad reviews received by the latest Marvel blockbuster X-Men: Apocalypse. X-men-apocalypse-launch-quad-poster.jpg
The 37-year-old, whose character takes center place in the movie's official poster, above, admitted that he had a large say in the decision to portray the X-Men's emblematic leader as having what critics have hailed "the mother of all combovers".

"The initial idea was to have Charles totally bald," McAvoy told UnNews, in an interview you won't see on other websites. "But I just thought it was silly to go from luscious locks in the 1970s to nothing in the 1980s. I wanted to show an in-between, balding stage.

"That, in retrospect, was a massive mistake."

The movie-going world seems to agree, with online criticism of the picture focusing on the "distracting" nature of Professor Xavier's hair, the strands of which are so few in number that they could be counted by a 5-year-old child with dyspraxia.

One sharp-tongued Tweet declared the hairstyle as, "The most bewildering coiffure seen on film since John Travolta channeled spaceman-dreadlocks in that scientology film".

For his part, McAvoy has no idea what led him to make such a character choice: "I don't know what came over me," he sobbed, "I think I just wanted to add a bit of realism into the film about people with super powers smashing up the world."

However, president of the James McAvoy Scottish Fan Club Joanna Corey had a different idea: "I think that James, as a proud Scot, was unconsciously revealing his desire to be Baldyman.jpgBaldy Man."
