Fans are also perplexed over why Ed would choose to star in a Disney Channel sitcom after getting famous.

Hollywood, CA-- Well-known British recording artist Ed Sheeran is set to make his acting debut in what many fans consider to be a very interesting-and arguably stupid-decision.

Speaking to UnNews, Ed confirmed rumors that had been circulating in the backwaters of 4chan, stating that he's planning to co-produce, co-write, and star in a television pilot that will be pitched to the Disney Channel.

"I think it's time for a bit of a challenge, you know, for myself and for my fans," Ed told us. "Disney's been one of the best production companies I've ever known since I was a child, a fact that can be evidenced from my DVD collection," said he. "You can see what brilliant inroads they've made with the Disney Channel. So many high-profile careers have been launched thanks to the efforts these lads put in, and I thought working with them would be a wonderful way to try something new."

The pilot, tentatively titled, "Bennet's Times and Bennet's Life" will see Ed play Bennet, a guy in his 20s who lives with his parents and is trying to make his mark as a recording artist. Describing Bennet as a "naive lost boy who dreams of owning the world," Ed says the show will focus on the "hilariously huge gap between having a dream and actually bringing it to life."

He told our correspondent, "I know the feeling of having such huge ambitions and seeing the world conspiring against them night and day. It's a tough world out there, and you need a lot of strength to pull through. I really hope people can connect with what I have to say on this show."

Fans are divided over Ed's decision to join the Disney "family". While many have condemned him for selling his soul and going down the footsteps of "all the talentless hacks that keep polluting the airwaves", some, particularly his younger fans, are appreciative of the decision. Said 17-year old Jon Woods "This is awesome, I mean I thought Ed Sheeran was all raw and indie and would never get involved with stuff like that. I only hope his idea gets picked up before Good Luck Charlie goes off air."
