Cherie - her finger coated with coconut oil - slips one up her old husband.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie used their annual Christmas card photo to send an important message about prostate examination.

The pair eschewed the typical tradition of a smiling family portrait, opting instead to capture the moment in which Cherie, 60, placed her right hand authoritatively on her husband's chest, as she slid the lubricated middle finger of her left hand into his anus to check for prostate irregularities.

Mr Blair's face clearly portrays the state of shock and discomfort one might associate with such a probe, but he explained his reasoning, "This is the season for giving and receiving. One thing we don't give or receive enough in this country is prostate exams."

Mrs Blair said her husband had a "clean bill of health", before adding, "which is more than I can say for my finger afterwards. I had to run it under the tap for a good 10 seconds."

Mr Blair told reporters, "I am sure many people are questioning the taste and timing of the picture, but frankly, if I save one person, that will be enough.

"How many prostate cancer patients have you saved lately, hmm?" he added, walking off gingerly.
