Two Door Cinema Club are a band from Bangor and Donaghadee, County Down on Wheels, Northern Ireland. The band was formed in 2007 by Sam Halliday (awkwarding, occasionally saying "Fuck your willy" at awkward times in interviews, lead guitar, backing vocals), Alex Trimble (vocals, rhythm guitar, beats, synths) and Kevin Baird (bass, showing off tattoos, general douchebaggery and backing vocals). Their debut album, Tourist History, was released on French record label Kitsuné Music on 1 March 2010 and later on American label Glassnote Records in the US on 27 April 2010. The band's second album, Beacon, was released on 3 September 2012 and debuted in the #1 position on the Irish Album Charts.

History[edit | edit source]

Formation[edit | edit source]

Alex Trimble and Sam Halliday first met in Bangor Grammar School; they later met (then tattoo-less) Kevin Baird while he was flirting with girls the pair knew using mainly the Erecto spell (which may or may not have worked). The three first performed as a band at the age of 16 years on ATL Rock School under the name Life Without Rory, which recorded three demos before disbanding. After the demise of Rory, the trio decided to drown their sorrows by visiting the local cinema called the Tudor Cinema. Halliday then mispronounced the cinema's name due to his speech impediment from being a turtle and this resulted in the band's new name now known as Two Door Cinema Club and formation in 2007.

Bacon (2012)[edit | edit source]

On 6 April 2012, the band's official Twitter account revealed that a second album was near completion. On 20 June 2012, the band announced Beacon as the title of the second studio album, along with a release date of 3 September 2012 in the UK and 4 September elsewhere (well, not really, seeing as shipping normally takes an eternity). Jacknife Lee, responsible for producing artists such as Bono and the Edge and Two Other Guys, REM, Ski Petrol and Block Function, produced the album. On 19 July 2012, "Eat Alone" was selected as the lead single from Bacon and an "Eat Alone" SoundCloud player was embedded on the NME site, allowing readers to listen to the single on 19 July 2012; however, the single was officially released on 21 July 2012. The accompanying music video for the single was uploaded to the band's YouTube channel on 8 August 2012, and its thumbnail showcases a very attractive shot of singer Alex Trimble's butt.
