Talk:127.0.0.1
"There's no place like 127.0.0.1" can be more hilarious if used as an Oscar Wilde quote. --Unissakävelijä 10:14, 24 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Most of you know this, but don't listen to the nice man over there in the article tab. In fact, boycott all article tabs. I'll start. -Bob the Mediocre
I don't understand 195.7.34.19's adding another "ever" to "worthless posts ever seen in modern wikis".
Init, ping[edit source]
Just to confirm, the init and ping commands *should* be safe to include on this page. Why?
- "ping" doesn't really do anything. It has about 0 security issues, and is safe for anyone to run.
- "init" (*nix only) requires superuser access by default, so actually trying it will just produce an error normally. If the user is a superuser, I think it'll shut down the PC as normal (equivalent to "shutdown -h now"), so should still be safe(ish). Mind you, anyone actually running as superuser ought to know this already.
I think may be taking this a bit to seriously, so I will say 'while (true;) do echo "Kazoo"; done' - and so the madness is restored. --H2g2bob 23:23, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
But init is linux and nobody would get that unless you're l33t h4x0r like m3. --Psychiccyberfreak 01:32, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Depends. Many IRCers on #uncyclopedia run Linux. Not all distributions are for "l33t h4x0rs". - Sikon 09:36, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Ping screenshot[edit source]
That's an outrageous lie! It can't be from my computer. I use Linux, remember? - Sikon 05:03, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
I went to Wikipedia,[edit source]
and all I got was an excessively geeky low-down. Can anyone explain precisely why this ISP is so infamous? —Lenoxus 16:47, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
+.+". Nice one User:Lenoxus.... Just in case you weren't joking: (Warning: Actual facts ahead)
The IP address 127.0.0.1 is used mainly to be being able to communicate with one's local machine as though it were a remote machine. Basically talking about the machine you are on right now. 58.106.24.48 07:01, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- I think I get it now... thanks, 58.106.24.48. —Lenoxus 23:10, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

127.0.0.1 begs the question, 192.168.1.1[edit source]
Personally, I'm sick of all this obsession with 127.0.0.1. It's as though everyone wanted to loop back to this topic again and again.
I far prefer the Lankiness of 192.168.1.1. While it can sometimes be Routed, there is a really profound question here. It is 192.168.0.0.
And I can't really decide between 192.168.100.1 and 192.168.100.0. So close, and yet so far. Well, that's it. So far.
I think you get the point. All three. ~~~~ – Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.96.200.115 (talk • contribs)
