Katseye
KATSEYE is a South Korean- I mean, a girl group whose members come from all over the world. And by that, I mean four specific countries that aren't just South Korea. They have members from the United States, Philippines and Switzerland. However, to avoid confusion, three of the members are from the United States and there's one each that are not from the US of A. Despite this, however, they are actually based in Los Angeles.
You may know the members after watching Nightmare College, which was the survival show that 6 of the members ended up getting a chance to be in the girl group. The most popular member of the group is Sophia, only because she's Filipina and her mother is an actress, which is why she ended up winning Nightmare College in first place. Every other member secured their spots either way. They formed in 2024, but they didn't blow up until the year after.
History[edit | edit source]
Nightmare College (pre-2024)[edit | edit source]
If you don't watch survival shows, Nightmare College is basically the western version of any K-pop survival show you could think of. Except, all of the potential members speak different languages. Out of the over 100,000 applicants that HYBE (same company behind BTS and NewJeans), only 20 of these contestants were selected only because they had prior musical experience. One of these girls ended up leaving due to her wanting to pursue a career in music production instead. At the end of the survival show, we get 6 of our members. These members being the aforementioned Sophia (from the Philippines), Lara, Megan and Daniela (each from the United States), Yoonchae (from South Korea) and Manon (from Switzerland), aka Meret Manon (or whoever we're going to refer to her).
2024-present[edit | edit source]
In 2024, KATSEYE began their journey into attempting to make Western pop girl groups more popular again after the disappearances of Fifth Harmony and Little Mix because girl groups from the East are more popular, even though they have two members from the East. Their first song is literally titled "First Song", while their second song, "Taste" ended up being their breakout hit only because of TikTok. While the latter song ended up on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100, it unsurprisingly did well in the Philippines at #22. They would release their first EP, Hard Is Weak on August 16. They would basically perform at music festivals around the United States in 2025 and did their first tour that only had them perform in Asia.
They would really break out with the song "I'm An E-Girl" from their second EP, A Terrible Order, which ended up getting their first hit on the Billboard Hot 100 after "Taste" didn't do well. It later got a remix from Ice Spice that no one really wanted. In fact, if they wanted to collaborate with her, the best time would've been a couple years ago. KATSEYE would release their second song, "Nightmare", which is about the survival show that they were on. One of the writers is Charli XCX of all people. A Terrible Order would be released a day after Manon's birthday on June 27, 2025, along with the third single, "Game Gear".
Members[edit | edit source]
Yoonchae[edit | edit source]
Yoonchae Jeung (born December 6, 2007) is supposedly the most popular KATSEYE member. Her oshi mark is the shell emoji (🐚). Apparently, according to Famous Birthdays, she is the most popular member of the group. This article thinks that Sophia, who won Nightmare College is the most popular, but isn't for some reason. Her most popular trend is similar to this but it's slightly less annoying. Her movements of the Maitake Dance are the same however. She is from South Korea and is the youngest member in the group.
Lara[edit | edit source]
Lara Raj (born November 3, 2005) is the second-most popular member of KATSEYE. Funnily enough, she placed second on Nightmare College. This makes her lucky number 2 as a result of this. She also has an older sister who is also a singer, but her older sister also has her own fanbase as well that is completely separate. Her oshi mark is the old key emoji (🗝️). She is also the most popular American on the group.
Daniela[edit | edit source]
Daniela Avanzini (born July 1, 2004) is the second-most popular American on KATSEYE. She is also the third-most popular member of the group as well. Her lucky number is 3, as she is also the third-most popular member on the website Famous Birthdays. Her oshi mark is the shield emoji (🛡️). Daniela is also known to have Wonder Woman's powers due to this.
Manon[edit | edit source]
Meret Manon Bannerman (born June 26, 2002) is infamously known to have several names. As mentioned, she is also known as Meret Manon. For the sake of consistency, we'll simply refer to her as Manon. She is from Switzerland. Her oshi mark is the crown emoji (👑). She nearly escaped elimination as she was the final member revealed at 6th place. The other girls who participated (Samara, Ezrela, Emily and Marquise) never made it in, as they have less points than Manon. The closest girl to replace her would've been Samara, but she lost to Manon by 2 points.
Megan[edit | edit source]
Megan Skiendiel (born February 10, 2006) is the least popular American member of KATSEYE according to Famous Birthdays. Her oshi mark is the cherries emoji (🍒). She prefers math over English. Somehow she was able to switch to online school by the 4th grade. Otherwise, she's the nerd of KATSEYE.
Sophia[edit | edit source]
Sophia Laforteza (born on New Years Eve 2002), despite being the most popular person on Nightmare College is the least popular member of KATSEYE according to Famous Birthdays. The power of the Philippines ended up making her win the entire competition. However, she was born in Queens in the United States, so this technically makes her the least popular American member and not Megan. There is a debate on whether or not Megan or Sophia is the least popular of the American members. Her oshi mark is the anchor emoji (⚓). NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-
