Facebook is second to marijuana in causing procrastination and stupid discussions.
“Life is pointless. Facebook is pointless. Ergo, Facebook is life.”

Friedrich Nietzsche on Friedrich Nietzsche

An anti-social networking service is an online website which allows people to communicate unabashedly with millions of people through a non-personal medium. Popular websites that offer this service are Bookface, Twatter, MySpace, and hundreds of other interest-related websites. These services have become so pervasive that some people choose to primarily or even exclusively communicate with spam bots and other human beings through them. Many people find romance, cyber sex, and "friends"[1] through the use of these services, resulting in positive reinforcement from idiots around the world who agree and empathize with their loser antics.

Those who spend much of their time communicating through anti-social networking services usually live in a social world of anonymity, minimized authority, and context-stripped non-personal communication. This can severely diminish one's ability to comprehend appropriate real-life social norms. This in turn leads to a loss of friends in real life and a general alienation of or from all contacts outside of the internet.

History[edit | edit source]

The idea for anti-social networking emerged during the dot-com bubble of the late 1990's. Around 1995 or so, many people thought it would be a great idea if they had the ability to show people they've never met before pictures of the Cocoa Puffs they just had for breakfast. internet entrepreneurs capitalized on this idea, and many anti-social networking began to blossom. The first anti-social networking site was SixDegrees.com, which launched in 1996 and allowed people to see just how far away they were from Kevin Bacon. The site became a hit among die-hard Kevin Bacon fans but was unpopular with most other people. Nonetheless, it laid the foundation for all other anti-social networking sites by allowing people to create user profiles, add strangers to their friends list, and post endless pictures of their children for pedos the world over to see.
