User:You Can't Ban Me Because I'm God/Troll Baiting

No matter the intent there can only be one outcome to Troll Baiting within a community..

There has been a bit of a debate going on lately about troll baiting and the negative effects it can have on communities, so it is important that we address the subject.

First of all: what is troll baiting?

Troll Baiting - simply put - is when a user tries to engage a known troll and/or griever and twist things by trolling the trolls, the tactic is one that will never succeed for many reasons (most of which shall be discussed later): troll-baiting is a scourge on many websites and is growing in popularity as time goes on, leading to flamewars, drama and the return of the "Your Momma" jokes..

Here is a prime example of a (fictional) Troll Baiting incident:

Troll: SUCK MAH BALLS!

User: NO U SUCK MAH BALLZ

Troll: YOUR MOMMA!

User: LOL - TROLLZ SUCK, ALSO SUCK MAH BALLZ!

Troll: NO U!

As you can see from the stimulating conversation above Troll Baiting really does only one thing: it feeds the trolls and we all know what happens if you feed the trolls.. that's right: fat trolls.

Now some users think troll-baiting is fun and engage in it regularly but they often do so at the expense of other users, a bit like chimps throwing fecal matter at each other in a zoo enclosure it is up to the keepers (site admins and helpers) to clear up the mess that is left behind.

Which leads to the question: why troll-bait at all?

Common Excuses

They Started It

one of the more common excuses a user can have for troll baiting is the age-old "but they started it!" - this logic is the same seen in little kids who fight in playgrounds: sure the troll may of insulted you, blanked your article or (heaven forbid) questioned your manhood (yes - manhood.. there are no girls on the internet) but by retaliating you have become as bad as the troll itself and the more you try to convince others that it's all the trolls fault the more you end up looking like a drama-whore or (worse) a 13 year old.

It's Funny

another common excuse is that troll baiting is funny - well let's face it making fun of obviously retarded idiots online IS funny but its the type of funny that sadly comes back to bite you in the ass after a while as trolls have a bad habit of going from hilarious caged animals to rampaging dickwads in a matter of seconds. By giving the troll attention you are kind of giving the troll an illusionary sense of power, like giving wine to that hooker - the more drunk they get the more you realise that you can't get rid of them.. you're stuck with this slavering beast until they are banned.. god help you if its a proxy.

I'm A User So I Can Do Whatever I Want

now we all know Uncyclopedia is a website where EVERYONE can edit, being a registered user doesn't automatically make one cooler than everyone else - though it does give one a better standing with the community as 90% of IPs are either assholes or seem to forget Uncyclopedia is not wikipedia.. However being a User does NOT mean you can do whatever you want, unless you happen to be an Admin - in which case you can do whatever you want because you are a power-hungry dictator with banning powers.. for the rest of us certains rules still apply: most importantly of all the "don't be a dick" rule: troll baiting violates the "don't be a dick" rule as it is a lamer version of cyberbullying (yes believe it or not insulting trolls is still insulting and thus.. oddly enough.. bullying). Leave the cyberbullying to the professionals - trust us the admins are more than bitter enough to come up with ways to make trolls suffer - as users we just need to revert, ban-patrol and possibly laugh at the trolls misfortune *after* they are banned.

It's Uncyclopedia - We're Meant To Troll-Bait

some users argue Uncyclopedia, by its very nature, is meant to be troll bait.. these users seem to be somewhat confused: Uncyclopedia is meant to be funny (..yes.. it's meant to..). Troll Baiting is by its nature inflammatory, ignorant and nasty - its not comedy unless done by exceptionally witty people and even then the laughs only last so long before the troll or user involved ends up saying or doing something that goes too far.. resulting in the fury (or general disinterest) of Admins, veteran users and (if your really really stupid) the Powers That Be.

Common Solutions

Ignore The Trolls

Ignoring the trolls is the best solution but also one of the least enjoyable - however it helps to think of most trolls as a skin infection such as a rash: the more you scratch at it the worse it will get so the best thing you can do is strip naked and dunk yourself in ice.. or better yet just ignore the asshole and put them on Ban Patrol. If the troll is especially annoying go to the talkpage of a local admin and ask for assistance, they will gladly aid you or ban you out of spite - either way your problem will have been solved.

Ignore The Troll Baiters

a harsh but productive solution is to ignore troll baiters themselves, a tactic often used by users who have had enough of the shit caused by needless flame-wars or revert-wards: it can vary from simply ignoring the troll baiter to (in extreme examples) banning the troll baiter from the community. It is important to remember that while ignoring troll baiters may be acceptable one should NOT try to troll the troll baiter as this simply causes even more problems (once again Admins can do whatever the fuck they want).

Do Something Productive

probably the best solution and easiest to follow: go do something productive with your live - well as productive as possible on this site, perhaps you could help out of the PEE reviews (we always need fresh piss), create some funny pictures, improve our crappy articles (let's face it, we have a LOT), vote for an article befitting of the front page or write a new article showcasing your comedy skill (or lack of it).
