Rutger Hauer is a Dutch film actor. Often mistaken for Roger Daltrey whose ancestor merely played drums on the Viking ship that dropped off Hauer's forefather in the Low Countries, he is known for his exceptional range as an actor, and his ability to cry sweet rather than salty tears whenever anything unexpected happens, such as average-looking cameramen stealing his co-star Monique van der Ven's heart or Dutch comedians such as Kees van Kooten making fun of his ill-fitting underwear. Although neither of his acting parents was especially known for homicidal tendencies, he has effortlessly portrayed:

• A homicidal hitchhiker (The Hitcher, 1986)
• A blind homicidal crimefighter (Blind Fury, 1989)
• A homicidal athlete (The Blood of Heroes, 1989)
• A homicidal vampire (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 1992)
• A Nazi policeman (Fatherland, 1994)
• A homicidal vampire, again ('Salem's Lot 2004)
• A cannibal (Sin City, 2005)

Also in 2005, Hauer extended his range even further by portraying a homicidal vampire in Dracula III: Legacy.
