Screamin' Jay Hawkins is an African American singer and songwriter. He is best known for inventing Goth Rock while getting high on Voodoo. He thought that if he was a black Goth,for some strange reason, that white people would get easily offended. Some people called him even racist towards his own race.
Early life[edit | edit source]
Little is known about Hawkins's early life. It was said that he was born in Houston,Texas to two poor African Americans who were obsessed with the Goth culture in New Orleans around that time. Hawkins's never got an good education,and dropped out in the 9th grade.
Vocalist career[edit | edit source]
In 1956, Hawkins's signed with O RLY? Records with a ten year record contract. He released his first single, "I Would Like to Rape You" in October 1956. "Psychopathic Blues" was released in early 1957, and Hawkin's released three total albums,1956's I Would Like to Rape You,1961'sGoth Niggers,and 1966'sYou Know What That Is! My Penis! All three albums were very controversal because of talking about violence,rape,sex,racism,and most of all Oscar Wilde being murdered. He soon stopped singing to focus on making meth and Voodoo.
Controversy[edit | edit source]
Hawkins's songs were the main cause of many murders in the late 50's and early 60's. He was arrested for raping the actress from the 1960 horror classic "Psycho". Many radio stations banned him for being "too weird." Hawkin's also had a feud with David Simonian,the creator of Alvin and the Chipmunks who said that their song "Witch Bitch Doctor" made fun of him. He put a spell on Simonian and made him a chipmunk himself. Luckily,nobody cares.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Bauhaus,Marilyn Manson,Alice Cooper,and many other psychopathic weirdos who made music were inspired by his creepy ass sound,especially Charles Manson.
