Overview[edit | edit source]
With the release of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare back in 2007, and the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 which came out in 2011, I decided that, as a Call of Duty fan, to review the most controversial Call of Duty, or as us fans called it CoD, game ever released.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is the sixth game released in November 10, 2009. It is published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward. This game was announced in early 2009 by Bobby Kotick, CEO and practising Satanist. Like the Call of Duty series as a whole, this game was very popular, selling millions of copies, and was developed as a response to the Battlefield series, developed by EA. This game is very controversial for several reasons: one, the game has a level that puts you in a position as a terrorist and killing people at a Russian airport (but you can skip this level), two, there are no dedicated servers for the PC version (console versions don't need their own servers, and no one complained of that), and three, the executives of Infinity Ward are given the sack by Activision after several disputes between Kotick's attempt to destroy the gaming industry by making Activision the Atari of today- it's all down to the money problems that only an economist knows.
For the sake of ease and simplicity, I am going to review the PC version and not the PS3 or Xbox 360 version as they are basicially the same but with huge differences, and that Xbox Live is gay. If you are loking for such a review, go to IGN or some website that has the reviews of CoD for diferent consoles. When I first played this game, I was thinking, "Man, this game is going to be awesome", but later, I thought, "What the fuck is this? The campaign is too fucking short!" and I burst into rages of swear words, blasphemies and fury. I also tried out the multiplayer mode, but it was futile, and most of those guys playing the multiplayer mode are nothing but 12 year-old kids shouting in the microphone, exploiting the flaws of not having a dedicated server by using mods, and finally, they even cheated the game by using hacks and all the other shit. But despite all of these problems, it still manage to be a best-seller in the UK and the USA.
Plot[edit | edit source]
The short comment I can give here is: the campaign is too short. And this piece of shit managed to sell well. What the fuck?
The long comment I can give here is:
The game begins where the events in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare left off, starting off with the character called Joe Allen in Afghanistan for military training at a U.S. Army base. He then was sent to Russia undercover as a terrorist working for Vladimir Makarov, a former lieutenant of Imran Zakhaev, who is the main character in Call of Duty 4 as part of the Ultranationalists group. After Makarov revealed his identity, Allen was shot, which created a war between America and Russia. Russia bypassed the security systems in the U.S. and invaded the nation, leaving the U.S. Rangers to fight back in some suburb in Virginia before moving on towards the capital, where there is a battle over control of the capital. On the other side of the world, Task Force 141, a British unit, entered a Russian air base to retrieve a module that would compromise the warning system. But the warning has been compromised way before that, so there is no point for me to go all the way to Russia to get that device! Anyway, this leads to assuming the mastermind of the terrorist attack at the airport is Makarov, who was assumed to be a dumbass with Allen by shooting him, who, by the way, was also a dumbass. This sparked a war.
You play as five characters in this game- Joe Allen, who is murdered by Russians after killing civilians, Gary "Roach" Sanderson, a member of a counter-terrorist unit, John "Soap" MacTavish, Roach's superior, and James Ramirez, a U.S. Army ranger under the command of Sergeant Foley. And there are a lot of NPCs such as Ghost. And I do mean a lot. Soap MacTavish was the only one of two who survived, because Roach went into explosive, spontaneous combustion made by U.S. Army soldiers with Ghost thrown in the mix, and the said fire was filmed by a soldier (complete with marshmallow roasting) to put it on YouTube, only to realise that the servers were completely fucked due to the EMP explosion, cutting off power to the U.S. I heard the screams of "FUUUUUUUCK!" coming from them right now....
Now back to the story. Soap and Roach went to a Russian airbase to claim a module from a destroyed satellite. Meanwhile, Russia invaded America, and Sergeant Foley lead his unit (the Rangers) to defend a suburb in northeastern Virginia and later to defend Washington D.C. from the Russian invasion. The US Army wanted to destroy the entire city so that the Russians will not occupy the city.
