UnBooks:Fishing For Children[edit source]
An article which is meant to be a satire on the "evils" of fishing. Few fishermen seem to realize that they are torturing a living being. This takes the uncareingness of the "sport" to an extreme. Thanks for taking this! Aleister 00:20 23 9
- I'll get to this later on tonight, provided other things don't get in the way.-- 20:25, September 29, 2010 (UTC)
Humour: | 9 | The humour within the article is wonderful as all of the fishing colloquialisms and phrases are changed to reference human babies, allowing the reader to see how horrible many of them are. The gung-ho spirit behind the whole thing parodies that of a fishing book extremely well, and helps emphasize the disconnect between the cruelty of the sport and the joy of the sportsman. The various quotes sprinkled throughout the book are nicely written (personal favorite being "If it's a fetus, we do not eat it.") and add to the absurdity. Besides a few touch-ups here and there where you think they are needed, I do not think that the humour needs much modification. |
Concept: | 8 | Within the wonderful realm of content, I believe that you have covered most of the main things that a fishing book would have covered; and therefnord have successfully parodied a fishing book. You covered the general technique very well and even included a tip for "expert" fishermen. If you wanted to, a well written section breaking down what types of babies can be found in certain generalized locations, a bit explaining what sort of rod you should use, a bit explaining what the best weather and climate conditions are for "fishing" certain types of children, and/or any other sort of thing that a fishing book might contain to give "helpful hints" on where and how a fisherman can catch the type of child he/she wants. |
Prose and formatting: | 8.5 | For prose and formatting, yours is one of the cleanest articles I've yet reviewed and I only caught 3 real typos being that you spelled "approaches" as "approachs", "Chinese" as "chinese", and "sissies" as "sissys". Besides that, the article catches the informal tone that most fishing instruction books take, spending about half the time talking about the reader's personal experiences and the rest instructing the reader on how they can do the same.
In my personal opinion, I think that the crybabies section may be a little too short to deserve it's own sub-header; but if it looks right to you then don't bother changing it, as it might actually look worse without the sub-header. |
Images: | 8.5 | All four images connect well with the article and have captions that should force out a gale of laughter when read. The only things I can really say that would improve them is if you put punctuation at the end of the caption for image 2 and possibly the one for image 3. |
Miscellaneous: | 9 | For an overwhelmingly good idea and execution of that idea. |
Final Score: | 43 | I believe that this article will e gracing the front page very shortly as it is already near perfection. Just a minor edit or two and it should shine like the fear in a hooked child's eyes. |
