UnNews:Oxford Dictionary considering replacement for word "mouthgasm"
Thursday, April 21, 2016
OXFORD — Oxford English Dictionary, one of the most reputable English dictionaries in the world, has opened a poll on its website stating that they are looking to replace the word "mouthgasm" with any option that "sounds better". The current word, which means "an intense feeling of pleasure received when consuming tasty food" was recently considered "clumsy" by the linguistic board, with one of Oxford University Press editors calling it "somewhat artificial".
The dictionary, proudly listing such perfectly natural words as "hemidemisemiquaver", "flexitarian" and "batrachomyomachy", offers those who wish to take part in the poll several choices, handpicked by random English teachers. The leading option, heavily favored by the board, is the word "orgth". It is described as "a composition of beauty, phonetically pleasing to tongue and ear alike". Closely tied with it are "chunk spunk", believed to be "an apt description", and "food wood" (suggested by a 13-year-old from Michigan). The full list, containing at the moment 17 options, is available on the dictionary's website.
One particular option, "oral gratification", was removed from the poll following an open letter by Merriam-Webster. The company said they would not include this word in their dictionaries fearing that a great number of creepy uncles would use it exclusively as a double entendre.
