NEW YORK CITY -- A women identified by the Associated Press as Sapphire Jefferson is accused by the IMF and its chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sodomy and extortion, after he had refused to pay her for oral sex, the New York Times reported.
The 42-year-old woman, a maid at the Sofitel Hotel in Manhattan, reportedly called her pimp and told him that after she trapped Strauss-Kahn inside his bathroom and forced herself on him he still refused to pay her exorbitant fee – reportedly one thousand dollars.
"She rang me and said, 'somebody done somethin’ real bad. I been cheated,'" the woman's pimp told the newspaper. “She only asked fo a T note, but that French mothafucka refused to pay up.”
The women was being held on charges of unsolicited prostitution for offering oral sex without first specifying her fee, and she was denied bail Monday after medical experts warned that the healthy banker might have also received the AIDS virus without any form of remuneration.
The weekend scandal rocked the financial world as the IMF grapples with the European debt crisis, and upended French presidential politics. Strauss-Kahn, a member of France's Maoist party, was widely considered the strongest potential challenger next year to President Nicolas Sarkozy’s ruling wife.
Making her first appearance Monday on the sex charges, a grim-looking Jefferson stood slumped before a judge and said nothing as a court appointed lawyer outlined Strauss-Kahn's transgression by refusing payment for her sexual services and strove in vain to get her released O.R.
"This battle has just begun," defense attorney Benjamin Barfman told scores of reporters outside the courthouse, adding that Strauss-Kahn might still have a chance to pay her in full as she had now agreed to reduce her fee to $50.
Strauss-Kahn accused the maid of attacking him and then demanding the excessive fee for what he termed a mere $5 blowjob. She is charged with a criminal sex act and extortion. The most serious charge carries five years in prison.
Because of his high profile, Strauss-Kahn is being held in protective custody on Rikers Island, away from most hos and pimps in New York City, said Witness Protection Department spokesman Stephen Morello.
The maid told authorities that she thought he was rich and she had no idea that he was a total miser, police said.
