MARSEILLE, France -- Police who are investigating a series of sexual assaults in the French city of Marseille have arrested identical twin brothers - without having a clue which one of them forced women to have sex with them!
The 24-year-old unemployed delivery drivers, named locally as Huey and Louey, were placed under investigation on Friday.
Chief Inspector Bertrand Clouseau, wiping a tear from his eye, said: "It really is a crazy, crazy case! Normally, we can pin a rapist when we have his DNA, but with these two, their DNA is identical and we don't know who to believe!"
There were six similar sexual attacks in Marseille on women aged between 22 and 76 between September 2012 and January 2013. The range of age in the women's ages has led the police to consider the possibility that both men are guilty, with Huey being a 'normal' rapist, and Louey being more of a 'grab-a-granny' type.
Police got their first lead from CCTV footage on a bus, but when a member of the public telephoned them with a name and address, they found not one, but two suspects who fitted the bill. Both men were arrested and have since blamed the other in all interviews.
The bizarre circumstances have even brought unexpected mirth to the victims. One, who was asked to identify her sex attacker from an identity parade said: "I looked at the five of them, and 1 and 3 were exactly the same. I just blurted out 'It was one or three, but not at the same time' and me, the policemen, and the suspects all just fell about laughing."
