Having something special happen[edit source]

Wouldn't it be nice to have something special happen when people start inserting random offset numbers? Something like "You have tried to cheat the game. The darkness will now swallow you whole. You will be trapped forever. Alone. In the dark." Hmm? I hadn't even thought about that. That's the problem when converting from link-based to CGI based games. I'll have to work on something. Pup 08:20 16 Feb '11
Stupid Wikia. That isn't possible on this platform, unless you make the engine the game itself. --JordonOng 12:03, May 31, 2011 (UTC)
It is in a way. The way it's done is by using the last 3 digits only. By adding in an if offset > 999 then it would work. I haven't looked at the code for a while, but I think the third digit (hundreds) covers possible movement/action, and that has 7 options, so even >799 would work. Pup 12:10 31 May '11

Getting out of the attic[edit source]

How do I get out of the attic? – Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.156.10.15 (talk • contribs) 19:13, June 2, 2011‎ (PHT)

Maybe it is impossible. --Stranger195 Philippines (talkcontribsguestbookwtunf) 09:49, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Very clever![edit source]

The offsets are kind of like a coordinate system!

xyz

x is "direction" (1-4 are cardinal directions, 5-7 are item uses/drops), y is "location" (how many "steps" one has taken, loops back, although changing direction will not reduce y but change x) and z is "state" (which items dropped, which items used). Rather than defining every offset, the engine uses math functions to store and retrieve what state the game is in ("no items, moving left, 3 steps in" is 127 I believe). I am terrible at math, but I believe that's 172 "game state" combinations (4 directions * 7 steps * 6 conditions (letter + key, crane + key, letter only, crane only, key only, nothing) + 3 use/drop states + 1 default starting point). Ridiculous amount of effort for a joke game. MUGA Intern Sandeep (talk) 22:40, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
